"Welcome to London, thank you for flying with us."
Here I am. My new home. Bye Wisconsin. Hello London. Oh gosh.
"C'mon Lucas, get off your phone." My mom says to my eighteen year, cool brother.
My brother pulls out his earphones and puts his phone in his sweatshirt.
"Why did I have to get off my phone, I was texting Lilly."Lilly is my brothers girlfriend. They had the fairy tale relationship. Dating since freshman year, won homecoming king and queen, and would have won prom king and queen, if we didn't have to move for my moms job. I have a feeling this fairy tale relationship is going to end soon.
My mom used to be a waitress. She didn't make a lot of money. Her new job is working retail at a 'Victoria Beckham' store. That jobs doesn't pay that well but it's better. Since we barely have no money, we are staying with my rich grandma who I've never met.
"Grandma is picking us up so be on a look out." My mom says.
"Mom we've never me her." I say.
"What car will she be driving?" Lucas asks.
"She doesn't drive, but she has a driver." My mom says.
"Woah." I say shocked.
"Mom that literally didn't answer my question." Lucan says very annoyed.
"She just texted me saying it's a white Rolls-Royce." She says.
"Those are literally hundreds of thousands of dollars oh my god." Lucas says as he gets excited.
"Wait really?! I'm so excited to see her house omg!" I say super excited.
"She lives in the richest neighborhoods in London." My mom says.
"Why didn't we know she was super rich before?" I ask.
"Well after dad...." My mom says.
"Mom you don't have to say any more... we understand." Lucas says sweetly.
My dad died when I was five. He was my very best friend. My most vivid memory of him was the day before he died. He took Lucas to an ice cream shop and after he took me to our favorite park. Whenever we'd go to that all we would do is talk. I was never a kid who would play on the playground, that's dangerous. But that day we talked for three hours, he kept telling me "I love you". At that time I just brushed it off, not knowing that less than 24 hours later he would intentionally overdose. That's where life begins to go downhill.
"Oh there she is!" My mom says excitedly
Suddenly a white Rolls-Royce pulls up. The driver dressed in a black suit steps out and opens the door of the passenger seat. Suddenly a a women dress in a white and grey pantsuit and sunglasses steps out.
"Hello Grace." She says to my mom.
"Hello Anna, thank you for picking us up." My mom says to her.
"This must be Lucas and Juliet." My grandma says while giving each of us a hug.
"Hey Grandma," Lucas says awkwardly.
"Hello. Nice to finally meet you." I say to her.
"Juliet you are absolutely stunning." She tells me.
"Thank you." I say very surprised.
Suddenly a swarm of people with cameras come our way.
"We should go." My grandma says as she gets in the car.
The driver opens the door for us and we go in.
"What are all of those people with cameras doing here?" I ask.
There is silence for a minute.
"Um sweetie, your grandma is the editor of Vogue." My moms says hesitantly.
"Wait like Vogue the fashion magazine?!" I ask very surprised.
"Yes," My mom says.
"Hold up, those were paparazzi?" Lucas asks.
"Yeah, they are so utterly annoying." My grandma says.
"Wait. You're Anna Wintour?" Lucas asks.
"Yes, I am." She says modestly.
"Lucas how did you know her?" I ask him.
"I literally just looked up 'editor of Vogue' and she popped up." He says showing me his phone.
After about ten minutes the driver turns into a neighborhood filled with huge white houses. We pull into the driveway of one with huge checkered stairs leading up to it.
I look at the next house and see a boy who looks about my age scootering with a girl who looks about six. Cute.
We get out of the car and I grab my bag from the driver. I start waking up the stairs and I look back at the boy. He's looks at me and just stares, he kinda looks confused but he also looks really cute. I quickly turn away from the boy and walk into the house.
"Omg this is the biggest house I've even seen," I say as my mouth drops.
I look around. There is a grand stair case in the center. The floors are marble, the walls have fancy molding, and the ceiling is super tall. Woah.
"Let me show you to your rooms," Grandma says.
She leads Lucas and I up the giant stairs. First she turns to the right and shows Lucas his room. It has grey walls with a huge bed in the center and a bathroom.
Next she goes to the other side of the house to show me my room.
"Here we are Juliet." She says opening a door.
My mouth drops. My room is painted a really light grey with a huge window on one side and my bed on another wall. Just like Lucas' I have a bathroom and a huge walk in closet.
"Thank you." I say.
"You're so welcome sweetie," She says as she walks out.
I look at the huge window. It faces the house next door, the house where I saw the boy. My window looks right into a room in that house. All I can see of that house is the dark red walls and a couple tennis rackets hanging on the wall. I wonder who's room that is?
"Lucas and Juliet make sure you get your backpack ready for school tomorrow!" My mom says from downstairs.
Oh great a new school, half way through the year.
