Impalpable

One

Consciousness hits me. I hear a steady beeping noise. My eyes fight to open against the whiteness behind the lids. They finally open and I start feeling pain in my skull.

Then I realize. I have failed.

I look down at my arms, seeing the bandages covered in blood. I hear a sound in front of me. I look straight ahead of me and see a man in a seat across the room. His head is back against the wall with his eyes closed and his mouth is agape. I don't recognize him. He is laying there with a very soft expression. He looks cute.

I clear my throat to try to wake him up.

He doesn't move. So I do it again, a bit louder. He jumps out of his chair and stands up.

"Oh my God! You are okay!" he rushes over to the side of the hospital bed and sits down next to me.

I look down at my arms again and my voice comes out softly "Why."

He cocks his head like a puppy as if asking "Why what?"

"Why did you save me?" I feel tears weld up in my eyes but I do not let one fall.

He lets out a sigh as if he was thinking. "I don't know. I saw you there... I had this gut feeling, I don't know.. like I really needed to have you alive."

I finally look at him. "But you don't even know me. How did you even find me in those woods?"

He looks down at his feet "I was looking for my friends dog and got lost. But I found you instead."

I sit there and let my emotions dig at my skin.

"The doctor said he cleaned you all up." He says, looking at my arms. "He also said you were severely dehydrated and malnourished."

They dig deeper and I don't even pay attention to the man beside me.

"What is your name?" he asks putting his hand close to mine on the bed.

I move my hand on my lap. "I'm sure the doctor has told you my name."

"Yes but I want to hear it from you."

I let out a small sigh "Min Yoongi"

"Jung Hoseok. I'm so glad I was able to save you, Min Yoongi." He smiles.

A single tear falls from my eye. I wish he didn't save me.

"I'm going to inform a nurse that you have woken up." he picks himself up off the chair and walks out of the room.

And I'm alone. Just like that. I am truly an idiot. I should have done it at home. No one would have found me there.
