"did they treat you good in the orphanage? What would you guys do there? How long were you in that place for?" Memories began to flood back to Maddie's mind, memories that she wished she could forget. "Well..."

"Well, I didn't really have friends in the orphanage so I would usually just stay in my bunk, listen to music, and over think everything. Whenever I would leave my bunk I would get yelled at, and th...they would hurt me if I did something wrong." The small girl explained to Lauren, whispering very quietly the last part of the sentence. "What do you mean they would hurt you?" Lauren asked as calmly as she could, trying not to show the anger she had towards the people who worked at the orphanage. The small girl let a tear roll down her cheek and she sighed, "I've said too much, just pretend you never heard that. Please." The younger brunette begged, but the older girl continued to try and get the truth out of her. After a few minutes of persuasion, Maddie began to cave in. "Fine. I'll tell you what they did to me, but you can't tell anyone what happened to me. Especially the police." Maddie explained, in response, Lauren nodded her head. The green eyed girl didn't want to make a promise that she can't keep, so she thought nodding would be the next best thing. "In the orphanage..." She hesitated, "the workers weren't very... Nice to us. They would always call us useless, mostly me, and they would feed us expired food, but that was all the other kids got. I had it so much worse than they did and I have no clue why. The owner of the orphanage just seemed to hate me so much, she would call me fat, give me barely any food, and in the middle of the night she would grab me and drag me out of my bunk and bring me to her office. This usually happened when she was drunk but she would always beat me up, punch me, scream at me, kick me, everything you could think of, she did it to me." Lauren had tears streaming out of her eyes as the small girl continued to tell her about her horrible past. She couldn't believe that someone who seemed so nice was capable of doing all of this stuff to children. "She made me hate myself, she made me so insecure about my weight, my permanent bruises that she gave me, my scars, everything." The small girl finished, letting all the emotions she was holding in for so long out. Lauren moved so she was laying down right next to Maddie, holding her in her arms. "I will never let them hurt you again, okay? They can't get to you now, you're safe," Lauren coed to the small girl as she combed her hand through Maddie's hair, "I promise"
