In no time, the whole school heard about what happened between Connor and Claire. Everyone was talking about it. The girls talked about Connor, about how gorgeous he was, about his fluffy blond hair and his looks. The boys talked about Claire, about her boobs and her bum, and about how much they would love it to make out with her. But no one was interested in the girls who were also part of it, me and Dani. We were just little nerds, no ones. It didn't really hurt me, because I was used to it anyway.
I walked through the corridor, Dani went to her locker to pick up some books. All of a sudden, I saw Connor walking behind me, he was trying to wriggle himself through the crowd. My eyes caught his and he waved at me. A little insecure I waved back. What if he wasn't waving at me, but at someone else? I'd be so embarrassed. But Connor proofed me wrong, as he started to walk a little faster to catch up with me.
"Hey" he said.
"Hey" I replied.
My hand accidentally touched his, and I felt little sparks. I told myself to calm down, a boy like Connor would never fall in love with a girl like me.
"So, what's your next class?" Connor asked me. A little smile crept about his face. For a second I thought he was laughing at me, but then I saw also his eyes were laughing, and I felt less ill at ease.
"Physics, what about you?"
"Cool me too" Connor replied, "Wanna sit next to me?"
Did he just ask me if I wanted to sit next to him. Oh. My. God. But I tried to stay calm.
"Yeah, sure, sounds fun" and I glanced at Connor.
"Nice" Connor answered. He gave me a little wink.
"But hey wait a second, when I met you at lunch, you stuttered, didn't you?" he didn't wait for my answer and continued, "but I didn't hear you stutter for once" he looked at me with a big smile on his face.
"Wait yes I didn't" I replied happily.
"Why?" Connor asked.
"Well I don't stutter when I'm around people where I'm comfortable with, so I guess" I took a deep breath, "I guess I'm just feeling comfortable with you''
Meanwhile we arrived at the classroom, Connor opened the door and we got in. Luckily we wern't the last who got in, so we were able to pick our own places. We sat down and got our stuff out of our bags. I accidentally dropped my pencil, and I bent down to pick it up. But Connor did the same, and our heads bumped into each other.
"Oh my god, sorry" I said laughing.
"Haha, no problem" Connor replied. He gave me back my pencil, but it wasn't my pencil. And just when I was about to say it, the teacher came in.
"Good morning folks" He said, "I'm Mr. Wisley, I'm your physic teacher this year. I won't tolerate contradiction or cheeky behavior. Ok, let's start with the lesson. Everyone open your books on page seven, and um,'' Mr. Wisley looked at the list with all the pupils, "um, Miss Simpson, can you read the the first page please?'' He asked me.
My heart started to beat really fast, my hands became sweaty and my head turned completely red.
"O-o-o-ok" and I started to read.
"E-e-e-electrostatics is the branch of Physics, which-h-h-h deals with static. Electric char-r-r-rges or charges at rest-t-t-t." I felt so uncomfortable, but suddenly Connor took my hand, and it looked like he was saying "Calm down Sue". Peace flowed through me, and I continued.
"In this chapter, we shall study the basic phenomena about static electric charges. The charges in a electrostatic field are analogous to masses in a gravitational field. These charges have forces acting on them and hence possess potential energy. The ideas are widely used in many branches of electricity and in the theory of atom." I read, without stuttering once.
"Good, thank you Miss Simpson, Mrrrrrrrr. Curtis can you continue please?"
Lewis continued reading, and Connor let go of my hand.
"Sue that was amazing, how did you do that?" Connor asked me after class.
"I don't know" I answered, "It just felt like.. Like you believed in me." My eyes were focused on the ground, my hands in my pockets.
"I do Sue. And uh, would you.. would you like it to study with me after school?" Connor asked.
I felt butterflies in my stomach. Did he just asked that. Is this real? Was he maybe joking?
"Are you joking?" I asked a little insecure. I looked at his face. He smiled.
"No, I'm serious, would you like it? I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to of course."
"No I would love to, what time you're out?"
"Four, what about you?"
"Quarter past three" I answered, "I can come at yours?"
"Sounds great" Connor replied, "can I have your phone for a second?" I gave him a questioning look. "So I can put my number in it." He explained.
"Oh yeah sure, but can I have your phone too" I said smiling. Connor gave gave me his and I gave mine.
"I'll text you the address." Connor said.
"Ok, see ya"
"Bye"
Connor turned around, and for a split of a second he looked at me and gave me a wink. A little blush rushed about my face, and I started to walk towards my next lesson.
