Ben's point of view
Chapter Three
Jonah tossed the football into my chest, laughing while I took a second to catch my breath.
"Hey, man, what took you so long earlier?" he asked, catching my throw.
"What do you mean?" he tossed it back.
"We were all waiting for you."
"He was with a girl," Mark teased.
"It wasn't like that," I defended.
"Oh, really? Then what was it?" Jonah snided.
I shrugged, tossing the football to Mark. "We bumped into each other. It was nothing. I didn't even know her."
"That's what they all say," Mark laughed.
"Shut up," I hissed, smirking.
"Was she cute?" Jonah asked.
"She was hot," Mark called out.
"I don't know. She was... I didn't really see her."
"Right." Mark smiled. "Trust me, J. She was stunning."
"So, you didn't get her number?" Jonah questioned, catching Mark's throw.
"No."
"No?" he replied, shocked. "Why not?"
"Because I didn't think to ask." I caught the ball and grabbed my phone out of my pocket. "Oh, man. I gotta go."
"Where to?" Mark asked, tying his shoes.
"Work." I sighed, giving Jonah his ball back. "Look, I'll be over at nine."
"You better," Jonah stated, following be towards the parking lot with Mark towing close behind him.

I pulled into the entrance of the track a few minutes later. My boss was waiting out front to great me with a big smile. Okay, maybe it wasn't a smile.
"Ben! You're late!" He stood on the curb, his arms folded.
"I know, I know. And I'm really sorry, Sid."
"Don't even say it won't happen again. We both know it will." He lead me to the track, not mentioning my late arrival. "We've got a few new guys trying out some bikes. Help 'em out and show 'em the works."
"Okay."
"And do me a favor."
"Yeah?"
He sighed. "Try to come to work on time for now on."
"Right. Okay."

The track was busy today. I guess that's the one good thing about it being autumn. It wasn't too cold to ride but it wasn't too hot either. I was a constant rider myself. Dirt bikes, to me, were something I could enjoy all the time. If I could, I would live on riding.
"Ben, you can clock out." Sid stood over me, a helmet tucked under his arm. "You're time's up."
"Thanks, Sid." I smirked.
"Ben," he spat. "Try to come in on time tomorrow."
"I'll try." I gave him a small wave.
Time at the track flew by so quickly. I can remember the first day I started working here. The other guys said I wouldn't make it past the first month. They Sid was harder on the newbies. As it turns out, Sid is easier on this newbie. He let's me off the hook more times than I can count. I guess I'm just different. Maybe it's because I actually have an interest in what I'm doing.
