Rosalia woke up to the sound of roudy kids and being shaken. She looked around and yawned. "Mmmm. What happened? How long have I been asleep?" She gasped and sat up as she was told she had been asleep for thirty minutes after the camp had started. The adults comforted her and told her that they had covered for her and said she was running late. She nodded and snuck out of the bus. She went to the campfire and sat down. All the tents were up and the tentmates were chosen. She didn't know who her tentmate was, but she knew the adults brought her stuff to the tent for her.
Suddenly, everyone gathered around the camp fire and sat on the logs. Apparently, since it was late, they were gonna sing camp fire songs. They asked for requests and they sure got them. Rosalia sat on the corner of a log and tried to blend in. Everyone seemed confident and outgoing while she was just this little shy thing. Plus, she was pretty tired from last night, even though she had slept for thirty minutes, if not more. They started singing the songs and she sung along, but quietly. She knew there was a chance to sing a solo camp song at the parent's presentation, which is a show put on for the kids' parents so the parents get to see what their children did all summer, but she was afraid to. She had horrible stagefright and she knew it. She could sing in a group, but not alone. As people started practicing their solo songs, she laid back and started closing her eyes.
As if by magic, her eyes burst open and she couldn't help but smile. She didn't know who was singing, but whoever it was had a beautiful voice. The girl was about as tall as Rosalia, but with dark brown hair and light brown eyes. She was singing a song called the Ranger Song and it was very inspiring. Firm be the bond that binds us fast, Firm be the faith we owe! We who are standing side by side, One though a thousand leagues divide. Hills where the lighted campfires gleam and glow. Down in the ash the embers die, turned to a silver grey! Golden and blue, the evening sky, raises a star-lit flag on high. Now that the night relieves the guard of day. Under the dark the daylight waits, Over the sea withdrawn! Now let the day bring calm or strife, Rangering forth in love with life. We have a tryst, a tryst to keep with dawn. After the song, the girl went over and sat on a log near Rosalia. She smiled at the aplaud from everyone then turned to Rosalia. "Hey! You're Rosalia, right? My name's Alexandra, but most people just call me Alex. I'm your tent mate." Rosalia just nodded then looked around. She knew she was hyper when she was tired, but she wasn't hyper normally.
Finally, she was able to make her way to the tent and went inside. She set up her sleeping bag and crawled inside. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Once Alex came in, they talked about some stuff for a long while, actually. They talked about the camp, their friends, their families, and pretty much everything else. When they realized it was late, one o'clock actually, they decided to go to bed and get some rest before the next day. They closed their eyes and drifted off to sleep.
