Chapter 1-Reunion
"This man is finally free!" yelled Marius Kontos from the doorframe of the small café on one of the thousands of corners of New York City. People from the place stared at him annoyingly but the man couldn't give two shíts. He was finally and truly free, for good. His almost five year's 'perfect' relationship with Ava Corona were done. Finito. He couldn't be happier. He winked to a few teenagers from a nearby table and they all giggled at the tall dark-haired single man. He may be twenty-three, almost twenty-four at the time, but he still got it with the ladies. His Greek and Italian genes had given him the looks of a model of fancy runaways and exclusive magazines.
Jax Kontos was reading an article of the Italian economics on his iPad when a very familiar voice, coming from the entrance of the little café, took his attention. There he was, Marius, his twin brother, standing all mighty winking to some girls at a small table. He spotted Jax waving a hand eagerly and walked to him. A red-haired woman passed him and he couldn't control to stare at her rare and earned a scowl from said woman. Jax just chuckled at his twin's behavior and waited for him to sit.
"So..." Jax trailed off, still focusing on the article, "How did it go? I'm guessing it was fine for that stupid grin of your face," he looked at his brother who was taking of his jacket and rolling his blue-baby down shirt sleeves to his elbows.
"You have no idea," Marius exhaled, "She went all crazy about how I was making a mistake leaving her, Ava Corona, heir of Corona Industries," he made a face making Jax' lips to curve into a small smile.
"She was a good shot," said Jax, blocking his iPad away and completely focusing on his brother. "You guys met in college and stock together over since," he leaned forward taking a small gap of his black coffee, "Why the sudden change?" he asked curious.
"I was bored, Jax," he answered matter-of-factly, "She became in this egotistical woman whose only concern was what nail polish should she wear for today," he said, "I need action, damnit, I need-, I want a woman who can make me feel alive again, I was feeling quite dead with her," he paused, his dark gray eyes staring at the ring his father gave him on his eighteen birthday. He chuckled humorlessly, "I felt like I wasn't living anymore; the office, her, over and over and over again. Nothing else. Just that."
Jax couldn't help but to sink in the words his two-minute baby brother was saying. In fact, he couldn't also help to think about his own relationship, to say he felt related to the feeling of non-living with his partner was an understatement. He felt the same way, well-no too much as equal but still.
The spark that used to burn inside him every time he thought of Elena Monroe was long gone.
Marius interrupted his trail of thoughts, "But you know what? Ava is the past and Georgia is the present," he said, the grin from before growing again, "I'm hot, rich, young and single. I won't let any other woman trapped like she did," he shivered, "God forbidden," he said, "I'm going to look out for hot girls and have fun, and if I find the one, well, I'd settled. Until then, I'm going to live 'la vida loca,'" he laughed and took his phone out from his front left pocket.
Jax just nodded on agreement and looked out of space. His brother was right. Right indeed. He used to look at his brother with this heir girl and saw nothing but boredom and routine on his features. Marius was well known for his standing, cheerful and hyperactive energy. He was like a kid with high levels of sugar, all the time. But with this chick, he was nothing but a doomed soul ready for the guillotine.
"Oops, speaking of witches, here comes yours, bro," Marius murmured to an oblivious Jax whose attention went back to the situation presented. She was walking like a model on an expensive runaway, her curves swayed with the wind as her blond and stylish hair adored her back and shoulders. Her black and white shades hid the bluest oceanic of eyes and her lips were plump and crimson.
