Sarcastically Oblivious

Two

I head out of the cafeteria not caring that I left my phone in there. I get in the washroom and tears start flowing on my cheeks.

That guy made my mom cry in front of all those police officers. The fact that he has lots of cash shouldn't give him the right to mistreat the poor. Or any one of lower status for that matter.

I wash my face and head out. Shit! Now I don't even know what my next class is.
"Terry, wait!" someone calls and my eyes meet Molly who is carrying my bag and phone. Oh she's such a dear.

"What the hell did you do back there?Do you know who he is? What got into you? And why did you storm off like that? Do you know that you are the school talk now?! " she asks all this while panting like an old cow.

"Let's go to class. I'll tell you that later. "  I say and start dragging her to class.

"Wh-what?! " she says while struggling to keep up with my pace. With my books in my hands there's nothing to worry about for now.

We enter the class and everyone goes silent. I ignore all the stares I get. I release Molly's hand and she goes to her table as I head to mine.

Lessons go on well. People keep staring at me as if I just fell from Jupiter.

The bell rings and I head to the lot ready to head home. Mom told me I had to help her sell at our small shop.

Well we sell few less expensive clothes which helps us gain a living and pay for my fees here since my dad abandoned us. I don't even remember his face. It has Ten years since I last saw him.

I get in my car and start the engine then drive off. Molly has her own car and she remained at school for her tuition. She told me she sucks at Physics. I do too and I wish I had a tutor too but money has always hindered me.

That's why I will study hard and gain it. A lot of it.

You might be wondering why I have a car and I'm poor. Well I got this car from mom on my sixteenth birthday. She bought it when she won a lottery. Yeah.

She used the rest if the money to pay off all debts and at the end we were penniless again. But with fewer debts which is much better.

I stop In front if the shop. I get out if the car and head in. "Hey mom." I say as I kiss her cheek. "Hello love. How was your first day?" she asks me smiling.

I sigh. Just remembering that jerk destroys my mood. "Are you alright honey? " mom asks with a concerned expression.

"Yes mom in fine it's just that the guy who locked me in jail goes to the same school." I reply and mom gasps.
"oh no! You can move to another school dear. I know you won't be comfortable with him around. I'll just_"

"Mom. I'll be fine. You really don't need to." I cut her short.

I'm not ready to see her struggle to find me another school. I will deal with that wench.

"Are you sure? " she asks and I give her an assuring smile ,"Absolutely sure."

I keep helping mom till evening when I decide to go home and prepare dinner. Just spaghetti and meatballs.

As I open the door I see the sticky note. I sigh knowing exactly what it is. Rent.

Mom's business hasn't been well lately so she could not pay rent for the past two months and the landlady is planning to throw us out if we don't pay up after this month.

I get in and go to my room. I put my bag on my bed then change from my uniform to sweatpants and a tank top.

I ponytail my hair and head to the kitchen.

Fee minutes later find is ready and I prepare the plates on the table and just when I'm done mom comes in.

She showers first and then comes for dinner. "Mmm  this is delicious! " mom says and I just smile.

I like it when she smiles. She is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. She's gorgeous without even a single layer of makeup.

After that we eat silently and mom looks thoughtful throughout the rest if the dinner.
When we are done I clean the table. I wash the dishes and when I'm done I go to the living room where mom was resting.

" Good night mom." I say and turn to go to my room but her words stop me dead in my tracks.

"Your dad called,dear."
