 Myth Origins: Australian

There is a creature spoken of among people contemplating coming to Australia; a creature that lurks in the trees, waiting to attack unsuspecting victims as they walk beneath them. This creature is the Australian drop bear.

The drop bear is a supposedly fictitious creature locals speak of to scare and confuse tourists while entertaining themselves. It is depicted as a larger, carnivorous version of the Koala. It is said to have large fangs, sharp claws and red eyes.

People considering a vacation in Australia need to know how to defend themselves against this fearsome beast. The most effective means of defense is smearing Vegemite Behind ones ears; less effective means include wetting yourself or screaming English words while affecting the best Australian accent you can. Be careful however, drop bears have a fantastic ability to determine a fake accent. Failure to fool them will surely result in a horrid mauling.

While many don't fall for this urban legend, there are some that do believe it. This is usually a result of all the horrifying stories of Australia's lovely wildlife; most of which is venomous or ready to attack and maim you. Don't worry though, the drop bear is only a legend...I think.
