I am not really sure about this story but i wrote it anyway because I wanted to write a story with alot of mystery. Okay I am not making any sense so here is chapter 1. Please tell me what you think...

                                                                 Chapter 1

I stood there before the man I loved and wondered how I got to that horrid place. Right that instant, I prayed that I could get back to watching him from a far and not be so near him. I could hear him whispering harsh words into my ear and could feel his cold breath brushing past my neck. This was not what I had imagined or hoped for but I was willing to die for him. So, I stood upright and stared into the eyes of Alex’s gang leader although my weak heart was going at an abnormally fast rate threatening to burst out of my chest. His name was David Butcher and everyone in our area feared him and his gang. He was a nineteen year old school dropout who led a gang of about 15 members whose ages ranged from as young as 12 to 21. They were notorious and led horrible lives.

“Move Bitch.” He said turning the safety off his gun. I was a quiet girl but I knew a lot about guns. Not because I had one but because, I watched a lot of TV. Shows like Criminal minds and CSI were my daily cut of tea.

“No.” I said to him firmly. “He has not done anything wrong.”

“How would you know?”

“B-because.” I stammered and held my mouth shut before I said something stupid. I could not have them knowing that I spied on Alex any chance I got.

“I thought so... now move before I blow your brains out.” He threatened moving closer to me so that the tip of his gun was touching my forehead. I started shivering but refused to move. I did not know what I was doing but I knew that if Alex was shot, I would be shot as well. No criminal wanted to leave a witness behind so if I died for him, maybe he would get a chance to run and live.

“No... I will not let you kill him.” I said pushing my head forward so that he knew that I was not afraid.

After a while, I felt hands on my shoulders and a whisper from Alex. “Just leave Sara.” He said. “This is not your fight.”

He knew my name. How could he know my name? We were in the same secondary school but I never thought that he knew about my existence until my foolish act that day. I turned around to face him and looked into his dark blue eyes. He looked scared and his eyes twinkled with tears. This gave me more courage. I would stay here until David lowered his gun.

“You know my name.” I whispered studying his eyes closely.

“Of course I do, why wouldn’t I?” He replied with a small smile. See Alex was the only person in the gang who was kind. He smiled at everyone and you never saw him vandalising the area or pushing someone out of the way. I used to wonder why he had joined until I heard a rumour that he had only joined because David had forced him into it given that he was his half brother.

“If you two love bird are done making googly eyes at each other, I would like to do some shooting.” I heard David shout from behind, followed by a row of giggles from all around. That was when i realised that we were heavily surrounded by all the gang members.

“I am not going to move.” I said turning back to face him.

He scratched the back of his neck and when his eyes met mine again, they had turned black from rage. “James take this bitch away.”

Before I could object or look for James so that I could fight him if he came close, I was pulled away with so much force that my arm came out of its socket making me scream out in pain. This however did not stop him from pulling my arms harder. I decided to stop struggling hoping the agony would stop.

“So Alex, why did you rat us out to the police?” David questioned after I had stopped screaming.

“I didn’t-” he replied but before he could go on, David interrupted him by raising his gun.

“Don’t lie to me.” He yelled taking a few steps back. He was clever. He knew that if he shot Alex at close range, his body would be covered in blood.

“I am not lying... someone-”

“You keep on telling me the same fucking story and I am not buying it.”

“Well then you are a complete idiot.”

I watched David closely and could see his forehead drown in sweat. His face started to turn an angry shade of red and I knew then that he was not afraid to pull the trigger.

“What did you say Alex?” he queried, slightly tilting his head. I had watched too many crime dramas to know that this action meant that if Alex said one more word, he would be shot.

“I...”

Everything happened in slow motion after Alex spoke. I stamped on James’ foot and ran towards Alex pushing him out of the way only to feel two sharp objects pierce through the left side of my chest.

I fell on the ground paralysed from shock then heard muffled voices around me followed by heavy footsteps. My eyes moved around but finally settled when they caught sight of Alex. My lips twitched into a smile because he was there and looked well.

“You’re alive.” I heard myself say. I lifted my hand and traced his jaw line with my fingertips while he fidgeted. He held something to his ear and I heard him say a few words before he pulled it away and threw it on the ground coming closer to me. He placed both his hands on my face holding it in place.

“I-I c-called t-the a-ambulance t-they w-will b-be here... s-stay a-awake f-for m-me.” He said shakily. I could see his eyes tearing up and in a matter of seconds; I felt the warm liquid wet my cheeks.

“Y-you... y-you.”

“Shhhhhh Shhhhhh.” He shushed me. “You shouldn’t speak.”

“Y-you y-you h-have t-to t-to l-leave... t-they w-will t-think t-that y-you d-did t-this t-to m-me.” I coughed feeling a liquid run from my mouth. A few seconds later, I tasted my own blood after struggling to swallow the lump in my throat.

“I don’t care, I am not going to leave you alone.” He stated holding my hand. I was numb all over but I could feel the chills going up and down my arm. His touch was so effective that I could feel my heart hold on to its beat  just to feel his nearness for a while longer.

It did not take long for the ambulance to arrive. I could hear the sirens coming closer and closer but that is not what made me hold on. It was Alex and had he left me there by myself, I would have died way before  I heard the sirens.

“They are here.” I heard Alex’s hopeful voice say. “They are here just-”

Before I could hear another word from him, my eyes saw black, my ears heard nothing and my tongue tasted nothing.

I stood above my body watching as Alex was yanked from my side and thrown to the side. He fought hard to get back to my lifeless body but three police officers held him back. My eyes did not leave him but a beep drew my eyes to a space surrounded by paramedics. Their dark green uniforms made it hard for me to make them out but i knew that they working tirelessly to save my life.

Before I could see more, I felt a force followed by an empty feeling.

That is when I realised that I was dead. I was gone from the world and I had not even told Alex how I felt about him.
