Chapter 3

I stood under the shower trying to ignore the flaming water shooting at me from every angel. It's heat was to the maximum and as it came into contact with my skin, I winced at the unbearable pain darting through my body at a shocking speed. Lifting my head from the ground, I looked at Michael's back contemplating on whether I could ask him to turn the heating down. He had agreed to my request early of (me) having a shower without his heedful eyes on me but somehow I knew that asking him for another favour would be too much.

"Are you okay back there?" he asked.

My eyes shot up to make sure that he hadn't turned and when I realised that his back was still facing me, I replied "Yes." With a shiver.

The water was blazing hot but I could not manage to wash the shivers from my body. Every bone in my body trembled with uncertainty but it was my heart that worried me to the brim. Its beat was rough and uncoordinated, skipping every now and then and if I remembered correctly, it was never good to have a racing heart unless a surprise was involved.

"What did you mean earlier?" I asked Michael finishing off with my shower. Before I grabbed a towel he turned around and looked at me. My arms quickly wrapped around my body to keep what small dignity I had left but the small voice in my head told me that I was wasting my time.

"There is nothing there I haven't seen before." he chuckled looking straight into my eyes. His words however did not drop my arms. I had never met him before and it did not matter if he had seen more than I wanted him to… his gaze made me uncomfortable. Maybe I had been wrong about him.

"What did you mean earlier?" I asked him again after finding my towel and wrapping it securely around my body.

“About what?” he queried crossing his hands over his chest. I could tell that he knew exactly what I meant but he was trying to avoid my question. My eyes moved around every inch of his face studying his features closely. I found him attractive but something deep inside said to me that my heart was guarded for someone else.

“What is this place.” I questioned stepping away from the dripping shower. Every drop of water that hit my bare skin hurt more than a burning flame and I needed to stay away from it.

“Very funny Sara, like you don’t know.” He scoffed, throwing me the ugly clothes I had been wearing before. His whole demeanour had suddenly changed and it was hard for me to read why.

As I carefully put on my clothes that did not consist of any underwear, I winced at the contact the heavy fabric made with my skin. My eyes moved up and down my body and I noticed how bruised I was, bringing a gasp to my lips. What had scratched and battered my body so badly? I wanted to ask Michael what he knew but I was sure that he would answer my question with a question or simply not answer me at all. So I buttoned my shirt away from his eyes and faced him. He walked over to me and ordered me to push my hands through the straightjacket… the scariest thing I had seen in the haunting place.

“Why did you jump at the opportunity to bring me for my shower?” I asked him. I cannot remember ever being bold but I stood by my question and waited for him to answer it. His eyes got softer as he looked at me then he grabbed my arm, a shooting pain erupting from the impact. He had not grabbed me too hard but it did not stop me from biting down hard at my lip in order to ignore the pain.

“It’s because.” He paused pushing me through the door leading to the corridor. “You looked less evil.”

I did not ask him anymore questions pondering on what he could have possibly meant by that reply. But something was wrong because even as he said those words to me, I held no emotions towards them.
