A/n: I changed the title of the book. It's called Back To You, now.
If you're confused, you'll understand why once you read this chapter.

I was staring at my father with still eyes. The spoon and fork in the hand I was using to eat my spaghetti, both were stopped in motion by my hands which along with my body, was frozen. I didn't know what was happening around me because all I could hear was, well, what he said. It was just too hard to process any of it and the words refuse to stop ringing around.
I didn't even notice that my father was looking at me with concerned eyes and sweat dripping down his face. Or that my Mom was waving a hand in front of me.
"Honey, I think you broke him."
He sighed and agreed with her.
I didn't hear that either.
"You're going to USA so you'll be able to meet you friend, Marinette there. For business and for your sake."
Those were the words ringing around my head. And they won't stop.
I still refused to believe what they both had discussed and just told me about. All I could do was ask "I'm sorry, father. Could you just uh, repeat that?"
My parents looked at each other with concern. My father sighed again and came closer till both my parents were right beside me. Not a seat away. They stood beside me, looking at their son very carefully while I myself could only stare as well.
"Adrien, I know I have not been the best father for so many years. And you were so broken and I was stubborn enough to not take into careful notice and left it all to Nathalie, because I never knew how to apologise. And I still don't. However, you remember the time your mother came back?"
I slowly nodded.
"Well before we found out that she did, I finally decided that I would try my best to take out some time to be there for you. But when I did, that time, Adrien you looked so miserable. More than how I've ever seen you or Nathalie did. And you were in that state for so long it hurt me. I was itching to know what was wrong. Then, Nathalie told me you got a letter. From your friend, Marinette. The same day, before we got news of your mother, you went to the garden. While looking at the CCTV footage, I saw you crying. Nathalie told me she found no letter in your room anymore. So obviously your sadness was related to the letter and Marinette. "
My mother joined.
"A few months passed by, but you were still sad. It kept reducing day by day. I guess you were moving on. But then, I found you staring at your phone, probably at a photo of her, and crying. Mumbling words and her name to yourself. I had enough of that so I finally forced you to tell me that day you gave the exam you got a B grade for. And when you told me, I told Gabriel. Turns out, he was already a step ahead of me as whenever he worked extra time, he was actually trying to find a way to get you and her together. To find a way to contact her."
My eyes drifted back to him. It was getting harder to believe. So many years he had just left me off without a care, but now it's so different.
"I know it's hard to believe since I had just acted like I never cared but believe me I'm sorry. I tried to do something to help you. I know I can never make up for what I've done. But this was tearing you apart, son. So I decided to find her. It was difficult for a while, however, I managed to contact her last month. It was even harder to work with her, as she wouldn't reply to my emails for a while.
