I think I'm going to be sick.
It's been three days now since I last stood on one of Barcelona's many bustling ports, waiting for the passenger ship Fortitude, otherwise known as 12 L, to come into view. And even now, I can still recall all the noise being egressed from the crowds. Sweethearts giving one last kiss before parting, mothers dragging around rowdy children, the laughter of family members being reunited, seafarers preparing ships for departure. But I couldn't join in on the crowd's boisterous ambivalence, I had to keep looking over my shoulder fearing that they'd find me. And with every growing minute that my ship didn't appear, another knot would form in my stomach.
Luckily the first part of my long journey is now over.
The jerking motion of the ship underneath me pulls me back to the present, where I sit on a brown flora bed in a poorly lit bedroom. My home for the next 14 days. Stressed, I walk the short distance across the room to where my suitcase is propped up against the wall, desperate for something to remind me of home. I start to dig around in my hastily packed belongings when I feel dry stationary brush my fingers. I pull out an envelope and sit on the hard floor as I begin to reread my mother's words.
Nisa,
We're in trouble; stuck in the middle of an endless tribulation.
Your younger brother, Myles, has just amitted to your father and I that yesterday, he broke the law. Through treason.
I can't say I'm surprised. Last week, the day before you left to go to the captial of our country Tanisha, for the Citizenship Mandatory Work Camp or CMWC for short, Myles had been acting unusually irittable. When your father asked me about his behavoir, I just shrugged it off. I figured he was only upset to see you, his only sibling, leave for a month.
Now I know better.
As you know the Tanish government has always kept a close eye on our family specifically. This is becuase of the rebellion formed by our ancestors, my great great great grandparents, Samantha and Jacob, that shook the very formation from which the new world organization was growing from. Back then, Western Europe had just recently united all of the nearby countries in an attempt to save themselves from an economic collapse. They sealed the fate of the new country, to be named Tanisha, by having all of the previous rulers sign a document of complete submission to the new government. At first, things were peaceable and
economic growth even started to flurish. But, as time went by, the fight for power between the rulers grew more intense. Each ruler wanted for power for themsevles than what they were originnally given. They were willing to do anything to get it. Soon enough mysterious killings, illnesses, and suicides took each ruler one by one. All until three men were left standing. There were the former rulers of England, France, and Spain. They decided to retreat from the public's eye in order to maximize power and control. over the centuries, theses three rulers formed into one, the only living decedent, whom no one knows the name or face of. This concealed man is the ruler over all of Tanisha.Jacab and Samantha were around for the formation of our country. They had to watch as all the people were silenced into obedience. Bewilledered, they knew they had to do something to stop this government from becoming a world power. They both joioned an underground rebellon and planned to fight back. But before they could, the government caught them via an undercover citizen, and then procided to liquified the entire rebel organization.
