The sun shined brightly, flowers were blooming at their own pace, the trees swayed in the wind as well as the grass. The vast plains showed beauty and liveliness, but it wasn't exactly a day where people were smiling and admiring the gifts of mother nature. In fact, everyone was dreading the day. The day where the 206th Hunger Games tributes we're going to be chosen.

Josh woke up drenched in sweat. Throughout the night, the endless nightmares had kept him awake. When he went to reassure himself that he wasn't going to be chosen, that he needed to live, the nightmares had come back. There was so many ways he could die, and he didn't need any of them.

He clenched his shirt in a handful, breathing heavily as the corners of his vision blurred. He couldn't leave his sister Ashley, or the rest of his family. He just couldn't. He was to young to die!

A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. He felt light headed yet his vision cleared. He watched solemnly as Ashley walked in, her hands neatly placed in front of her. "Come get dressed, Josh. The Reaping will nearly start soon."

Josh threw his legs to the edge of the bed and slowly got up. He took his time in the bath and then getting dressed. It was weird. A while ago he was balling and now... He was just stiff. He never said a word for the rest of the morning.

Ashley held his hand as they walked to the Reaping. Josh barley even felt her presence though. He walked up to the sign in, expressionless. The women stabbed his finger with a needle and then began scanning. She nodded and Josh went to a roped off area where he stepped inside.

The atmosphere was gloomy. Crying was heard in the distance, and everyone was looking down at their feet. Josh fumbled with his fingers. It wasn't just his family that he was worried about but the district he was accustomed to as well. He would be leaving everything behind.

A tap of the microphone disturbed his thoughts. Whoever tapped it let it ring for a second until a petty high pitched voice started talking. Josh didn't pay attention though. He didn't want to.

It suddenly became silent.
