It all passed by so slowly, during the bus ride to school. The defined details of every house we stopped at, the light of day increasing in brightness each time we stopped at someone's house. The vegetation outside now at its peak from the harsh winter now being in full bloom already being in the middle of May being ridiculously hot.
Now arriving at school it's all soaked into my head every little thing, knowing it was my last day at the middle school. The high school was up the street, a huge three story brick building. I've never been in the high school not needing to be in there so this will be all new to me. I wonder what the hallways look like? What the gym and auditorium will look like compared to where I've been. Do they have good food? Are the teachers nice or are they jerks? I wonder how everything works up there differently then being down here?...
Arriving at school and stepping off of the bus felt like a brick wall of humidity hitting me. Continuing towards the school doors I watch everyone freak out like there was a million dollars inside those doors. I walked at my normal pace and walk into the lengthily building finding my friends in the process to talk about what we think school will be like up there. My friends being Jessica, Willow, Julia, and Jesse.
As I continue to walk with them we all disperse as we hear the homeroom bell ding throughout the noisy hallway. I throw my backpack into my locker and grab my first period binder which was English. I sit in homeroom listening to announcements and stand for the pledge just waiting for the bell to ding again. To my surprise our homeroom teacher hands us all our yearbooks today. This is freaking sweet I have to have everyone I know sign it! I mean it's my last year being in this smaller school, time to make the memories last.
First off, I go to my English class which already has our teacher crowded with year books I put mine in the pile and smile at him. He's a funny guy in his mid fifties, pretty tall and skinny, but not muscular. He's like a bean pole but one of the funniest bean poles I know. No matter if he wasn't having a good day or not he would always say something that cracks up the whole class almost into tears.
As I sit listening to his words of future advice with some sarcasm I continue onto my next class which was math. The class I absolutely dreaded going to I sucked so bad in math it was and never will be my strong suit. Our teacher was a hard ass and gave you shit tons of work but when the final exams came you somehow knew almost every answer. She got the job done so I respected her. I had her sign my year book as well hopefully she says something good.
I get my book walk to my next period class and as I'm walking I'm looking at what the two teachers had said. Mr.Duck "enjoy becoming a young adult in the high school see you at graduation corn dog!" For some reason our teacher liked calling his students corn dogs so that saying will definitely stick with me forever. My math teacher had said "all you have to have is faith then you will pass whatever obstacle that may seem difficult, look what you can use to your advantage and overcome it."
Wow I did not see that coming. That heart felt reply on my yearbook, but don't get me wrong it is good advice. My next period now is science, which is my second favorite subject that I have in school. My teacher in science he's pretty crafty and nice, young, and very energetic. I gave him my year book to sign and he drew a picture of space on it and it captioned "look to the stars for answers, they will always be your guide." I was amazed at his picture it was pretty astounding on how good of an artist he was.
My next bell I had lunch and of course lunch was one of the craziest periods and today they have decent food for once.... probably because it was the last but give or take I'll take it. As I lounge around to the rest of my final classes here I finally get to my favorite class in school which was gym. Gym was my favorite because I love playing sports and having fun.
But the most important part of gym that I liked was seeing how much I could piss off coach Negan. That was my favorite part of everyday.
I walk into my last class of the day to see coach Negan talking to all the boys and signing there year book. So I strolled right on up to him and asked "hey geezer! Can you sign my year book too?!" He gives me a not impressed expression on his face and puts his hand out for me to give him my book. "What makes me want to even write anything nice in your book doll?" "When your still calling me that stupid name?"
"Well you see here old man I'm one of your best students, and I'm asking every teacher to sign my book so please do." He huffs and grabs his pen and tears the cap off with his teeth, and quickly writes a short note and slams it shut extending his arm out to me with my book. "Just because you said please is why I decided to be nice to sign it for you." "Thanks now lets go old man!" He glared at me and pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head.
The gym class blew by quickly we played a few fun games and the bell had rung before we knew it to go home. As I was about to walk out the doors coach Negan had said "see ya later kid." He half smiled at me and I smiled back thinking that, that was probably the nicest he has been this year to me. Or he probably would be that way every class if I was not such a pain in his class.
I continued to walk down the hallway I had reached my locker grabbed my bag and three binders and headed for the bus to bring me home and start my vacation. While I sat all the way in the back by myself I had opened my book to see what he had wrote in my book. "Morgan- I hope you are not a pain in the ass for the high school teacher, but if need be annoy the shit out of him you shit head- the one and only ~geezer~." I was happy that he had said something positive but something that will always make me remember him, the best teacher in the middle school good ole geezer coach Negan.
