Many things come to mind when I think back at my life, but what I'm most reminded of are my regrets. Regrets of not doing something when I had a chance, regrets of now never being able to live them again.
Leo's warm hand enveloped mine as we walked aimlessly in the dark. He never spoke, only snickered when I'd trip over a branch and smack his arm. Maybe leaving my house in the middle of the night to go hiking wasn't the best idea.
"Leo!" I said exasperatedly. "Where the hell are you taking us? There's a bunch of pokey things in my socks!"
He didn't even glance back. "Hush, babe. We're here." I glared at the back of his head.
No sooner than he said that, he pushes his way through some bushes and tugs me with him. Never in my life had I seen so many lights.
It felt like we were standing over the city, completely invincible. The lights looked like stars on land, all joining together to make a beautiful landscape. I couldn't help the breathless laugh that escaped,
"Wow, Leo... this is amazing."
I never noticed the way he gazed at me at that moment. I was too transfixed on the sight before me. It almost felt like an out of body experience, thinking back. I see myself standing near the edge of the rocks, Leo right behind me but not touching me. He gazed at me like I was the answer to life. I liked it. I liked it a lot.
