It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in Ponyville. The sun shone brightly as ponies greeted each other cheerfully while strolling by, furry little bunnies playing happily in the sweet-smelling grass. Shop-owners proudly displayed their merchandise in shop windows for everyone to see, and every now and then a rainbow-colored pegasus would be seen clearing the skies free from gray clouds.

"This has got to be one of the most peaceful days in Ponyville", sighed Twilight Sparkle in contentment. She, Fluttershy, and Spike were on their way to visit Pinkie Pie. Shining Armor and Princess Cadance had invited her to dinner, and Twilight didn't want to go empty-hoofed. So she decided to ask Pinkie if she could bake some delicious tea cakes to take with her. On the way to Sugar-Cube Corner, she happened to bump into Fluttershy, who was also going in order to get a carrot cake for Angel Bunny's birthday. So the two friends decided to go together.

And of course, Spike had his heart set on tagging along from the very beginning.

"Oh yes, Twilight", replied Fluttershy. "It's all so wonderfully cheerful today. And I saw lots of birds building their nests everywhere, and some even have little cute tiny eggs. So it's also a very busy day."

"That sounds very interesting. You'll have to show me so I can analyze different nest structures and observe the early stages of baby bird growth," Twilight said excitedly.

"Seriously?" groaned Spike. "They're birds, Twilight."

"And birds are very interesting." huffed Twilight in response.

Fluttershy giggled. "Birds are one of the sweetest of creatures. And they have beautiful voices and can come in so many amazing colors. Not to mention they come in all shapes and sizes."

Spike shrugged. "Ponies and dragons are colorful too. No big deal."

"Don't mind Spike," Twilight said to Fluttershy. "He's just upset because a blue jay took one of his jewels and flown away with it."

"And I got my eye out for that blue jay too," Spike said, looking at every passing bird suspiciously. "So let me know if you spot it, 'cuz I have some personal business to settle with a certain blue bird."

Both ponies laughed as they finally reached Sugar-Cube Corner, and as soon as they approached the entrance they began to smell the aroma of delicious sugary treats being baked inside.

Spike's mouth began to water. "Ooooohhh.......Pinkie must really be doing some extra baking today."

"Sure smells like it", replied Twilight.

"I hope we won't be imposing by asking her to bake something for us too", said a concerned Fluttershy.

"Oh please", snorted Spike. "This is Pinkie Pie we're talkin' about. There's no pony in Equestria who loves baking as much as she does."

As the three entered the bakery, they saw it was filled from top to bottom with boxes and boxes of cookies. A few stray chocolate chip cookies were sprinkled here and there, and some oatmeal ones were piled up in a far corner. Pound and Pumpkin Cake were nearly buried in another pile of peanut butter cookies. The twins were happily munching on the cookies, but Pinkie Pie was nowhere to be found.

"...literally," finished Spike.

"Pinkie!" Twilight called, trying to make her way to the kitchen without crushing any cookies. She and Fluttershy finally resorted to using their wings to carefully fly over the piles and through the shop area. Too many cookies were getting in the way.

"Pinkie Pie! Where are you?" yelled Flutter-- though in her case she only made her voice a teensy bit louder than her usual gentle tone.

The ponies and Spike finally reached the kitchen, where they found Pinkie furiously mixing a bowl of cookie batter in a happy frenzy. Her wild curly pink mane was covered in flour, chocolate chips, and other miscellaneous ingredients. The kitchen resembled a huge cookie baking fiasco, with cookie baking sheets, cookie recipes, cookie ingredients, and COOKIES everywhere.
