EXO star Kai's father has passed away. SM Entertainment confirmed that the 24-year-old's father died on 7 May after suffering from a chronic illness. A statement from the agency read: 'Kai's father passed away yesterday due to a chronic illness. Kai is currently staying at the wake, and the funeral will be held quietly with family and relatives. 'We ask for your consideration so that the family can grieve his father's passing.' Kai's EXO bandmates are expected to attend the funeral.
Kai – real name Kim Jong-in – is the youngest of three children, and the only boy in the family. The singer previously admitted that his father was the reason he joined SM Entertainment to become an idol. In an interview with Sports Seoul, Kai revealed that his dad filmed videos of him dancing and sent them to the agency, landing his son an audition.
