"Mikey! Wait, you forgot your bag." My brother called from the doorstep.

"Thanks Gerard." I sighed, running up to grab the bag.

"Hurry, you're gonna be late, love you, see you later."

I fake-smiled. "Love you too, Gee" I said, running off.

I ran to the end of the street and started on my normal route to the school. But first, pit-stop at Pete's house. Pete Wentz is my best friend. My only friend. I like him a lot. He's a real sweet, caring guy. I...kinda have had a crush on him since the 6th grade. I don't think he, or anyone else would want to date me though. I don't even consider myself "boyfriend material." I've always, for as long as I can remember, been the third wheel.

Whenever my brother has someone over, it starts out with a simple: "I'm gonna tag along with you guys, okay?"

Then comes the: "Uh, guys...where'd you go..."

The story behind that is that, one time, Gerard and Frank left me at a gas station because they were too busy making out to realize I wasn't back from the bathroom yet. Good times. I got to Pete's house and knocked on the door. It opened as soon as I pulled my hand away from the wood.

"Hey Mikes, you ready?" I nodded.

"Bye mom!" he yelled and slammed the door. We started walking towards the school.

"So, Pete, looks like you didn't grow too much over the summer, eh?" I smirked, trying to break the ice.

Pete giggled and shoved me. "You didn't get any more attractive over the summer, so I guess we're even."

My heart was suddenly ripped in half.

"...Y-yeah...I guess not, haha." I chuckled awkwardly.

"Oh, sorry bud, did I hit a soft spot there?" Pete asked genuinely.

How could I be so dumb to think he didn't care in the slightest. Of course he was just messing with me. I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Kinda," I replied honestly. "But it's okay, I know you were just playing around." I smirked at him, letting him know I was fine.

"So, your birthday's coming up dude, wha'd'ya want?" He asked.

"My birthday's in September!" I responded, laughing.

"September 10th! That's right around the corner. Never too early!"

I shook my head at his response. "You're ridiculous, Wentz." I sighed.

 "Yup!" he replied confidently.

We walked in silence for a bit. I was deciding whether to make a move or not. Before I could make a decision, Pete spoke up.

"Man, it's hot out. Or is it just me?" Pete raised an eyebrow and turned to me with a stupid grin on his face, which made me laugh.

 "You're seriously too much Peter."

He smiled.

"That's how I roll." Pete smirked, making me smile too.

We went on teasing each other and laughing about useless things until we got to school.

"Well, Michael, looks like we have all the same classes." Pete said as we exchanged schedules.

"Cool." I responded as we walked into English class.

We sat down in seats next to each other near the back of the room. Suddenly I saw someone near the front looking back at us.
