I slammed the door shut after a long and angering day of work. Simon Cowell had called me to gloat about the fact he has a new client signed. He just pisses me off to a point that I don't think exists.
I threw my brief case to the floor and didn't even take my shoes off. I went to the fridge and grabbed an ice cold beer, "Hey Liam." A happy voice spoke. I slammed the fridge door shut and popped the top off the beer.
"Hi." I dully said. Skylar looked at me and her happy face went to a confused one, "If I'm needed, I'll be in my office." I spoke with no tone. I pushed past Skylar and went to lock myself in my office.
----Skylar's POV----
That was.... odd. He looked so pissed off. His harsh tone defiantly caught me off guard as well.
'I learned that whenever he's in a bad mood give'im a few cookies and he'll be happy.'
I started going to the cabinets and pulling out the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies. Just like the ones I made the other day. This is step one in my plan. Liam needs to know somebody cares and is concerned about him. I just hope this doesn't blow up in my face.
----
I held the plate with both hands making sure I don't drop the fresh baked cookies. I peered inside Liam's office and saw him hunched over with an empty beer bottle next to him. I knocked quietly and he shot up, surprised. He saw me and waved me in.
"Hey." I smiled a little. Liam sighed and rubbed his face.
"Hi." He said. His voice sounded deeper, it made my stomach turn. I set the cookies down and took a seat in the soft chair across from him.
"I made these for you." I said motioning to the cookies. He warily took one probably debating with himself, "And don't use the excuse that you're watching your girlish figure so eat them all if you want." I giggled. Liam looked at me and he let a small smile reach his tired face. He took a bite into the gooey cookie and let out a sound of approval.
"These are amazing." He said taking another after shoving the first one in his mouth.
"I'm glad." I said. We sat quietly for a bit as Liam indulged in the treats. I still can't get over his looks. I just wish I knew him on an even deeper level, "So, you mentioned your last relationship yesterday. If you don't mind me asking, what was she like." Liam finished off his third cookie and sighed.
"She was, defiantly something." He nodded. He looked at me and smiled, "She was different than the other girls I dated. She was more pale, dirty blond hair, blue eyes. Her name was Hanna. I always had my eye on her when we were in eighth grade. We got closer when we got to high school and I asked her out at the end of freshman year. She was amazing. Beautiful, trustworthy, smart, kind." He was smiling but in his eyes he was pained, "We were gonna go to prom together. A week before I went to her house to surprise her but when I went to her back yard, she was in the pool with my best friend scrumping like rabbits." He became angry, "I gave my heart to her. I have everything to her and she threw it out the window like my damn neighbor did to her husband's things when she found him cheating." He threw his head back and closed his eyes.
"I don't understand what I ever did wrong to anybody. Every girl I dated screwed me over. Once my parents passed, I finally gave up on love. Love is just so dangerous and can leave you so broken." His voice cracked. I was waiting for him to cry. But he didn't.
"It's okay to cry." I whispered to him. I got up from the chair I sat in and went over to him. I knelt down and rested my hand on his knee, "Obviously those girls took advantage of you. They clearly didn't deserve your love." Liam shook his head. He looked down at me and let out a strangled cry.
"But Skylar, I literally gave everything to Hanna. I thought she would be the one I call Mrs. Payne. The one I would share a child with. She took everything away." A tear rolled down his face and fell on his pants. A dark circle formed where the tear fell. I stood up and looked down at Liam.
"All you ever wanted was somebody to love you for you. Love you like you loved them." He looked down and nodded. My hands rested on his shoulders. He looked up with sad eyes and bitterly laughed.
"I'm pitiful." He said. I lifted his head up to look at me.
"You're not pitiful." I sternly said, "You're a brilliant man. I know I haven't known you long but I know a bit about you. Anybody would be lucky to have you, I hope you know that. Any girl would be lucky to have your love. To the point where others should be jealous that they don't have you. You deserve so much, Liam. So damn much." Liam's gaze didn't leave me. His slowly lifted his hands and rested them on my waist. I haven't been touched by a guy in a while. A touch that sends shock waves through your body.
"You're not just saying this are you?" He asked looking at me with hope.
"I never lie. Everything I said came from the bottom of my heart." Liam stood up, still holding my waist. My hands still on his strong shoulders. He bent down and his breath fanned my neck.
"Thank you." He whispered in my ear and left a light kiss on my cheek. I tightened my grip on him and brought him closer to give him a hug.
"No problem." I said back. If only I'd kiss him.
