12: Mother to Mother

It's been three months now and am still playing the good wife, why?

My husband hasn't called nor visited ever since he visited my home.

I had no option but to open up to my family, my mother was very angry at me for concealing the truth from her.

I couldn't keep up with the lies anymore and I was hurting badly, dying slowly each day that goes by.

I decided to pay him a visit since he won't call me, because all he does is send my monthly allowance of $1000 dollars through Jisu his assistant.

Am married but living like a single person, what did I do in my former life to go through such punishment in this life?

Am so weak and tired of this point.

All I do is stay at home and do nothing.

After I confessed to my mom, she advised me to go ahead and look for a job defying my husband's instructions.

To my greatest shock, if I apply to any company, I will not get a call back for an interview, no company was interested in giving me the Job even though am very qualified.

In fact one of them told me that I was more than qualified for the Job but the higher ups won't let him hire me.

I began to suspect maybe my husband or his father has a hand in these.

How come I can't get a job in the whole of Gangnam?

I even tried applying out of Gangnam but all of my applications got rejected.

So am pretty sure it's my husband's doing or maybe his father's handwork.

He claim this is to fight for us but am not seeing it that way anymore, if someone loves you they won't treat you this way.

I decided to go to his company, maybe I could get a chance to speak to him but I couldn't get past reception.

Since I didn't have appointment I wasn't really allowed into the company.

I decided I will stay around the gate till his convoy departs but the problem is they don't stop once they take off.

So I gave up on the idea of keep going to his work place and even the gate of his home.

I started to work in my mom's restaurant since no one will take me.

She pays me just like every other of her staffs so I have enough money to register at a close by gym.

At the gym, I made a few friends and hot guys kept hitting on me but I dare not think of cheating on my husband.

Impossible! I will do my best to cling onto the last hope that he is keeping to his words and his promises to me by fighting for us, soon we will live together as a family.

We were able to close for the day when we suddenly got an unexpected visit.

Immediately she walked in with about four Security details, I could recognize her that she was Kwang-Su's mother.

I had seen her photos in his wallet back in New York and also met her on the day we returned back to Korea, although she never said a word to me at day, she just sat at the table and was starting at me.

She was dressed in high fashion dress that looked like she just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

She came with about four body guards.

I whispered to my mom about whom she was because my mom and sister were puzzled.

They did their best in welcoming them and offered her food but she rejected it.

She requested to have a talk with me and my mother so my sister and her body guards excused us.

I sat beside my mom and she sat directly opposite us, I held my mom hands underneath the table to help reduce my nervousness.

She finally spoke after the long silence and starring.

"My name is Mrs. Lee, am sure you are quite aware of who I am, I was sent by my husband to come and reason with the both of you. As you already know, our sons are married without our consent and that is totally unacceptable, my husband has sent me here to speak to you mother to mother, that they should divorce, my son has been stubborn and refused to give into all the pressure his father has been putting on him, as a mother, please understand my pain, my son needs to marry a woman and give birth to children in order to succeed as the heir, my step son is doing all he can to take it away what rightfully belongs tomy son, he has even married a girl to prove to my husband that he is capable of taking over the empire. I will not live to see that happen ,I beg the both of you to consider me and leave my son alone, whatever you want, money, cars, house or even moving to another country, I will foot the bill, but please talk to your son to leave my son alone, so he can take what is originally belongs to him."

While she was talking, I could feel my mom heating up with anger and she squeezed my hand under the table very hard to contain it, I couldn't control my tears at this point, after a long silence,my mother opened her mouth and said.

"Are you looking down on us or what? Are you looking down on our status? Are you saying that my son is not qualified to be your son in-law? Look at him, so handsome and very tall, any man or woman will be lucky to have him, am surprised that you choose wealth over the happiness of our sons but I will grant you your wish because my son deserves better, we don't need your money but I can assure you my son is ready to divorce, if your son agrees to file the papers in the US, I will make sure my son signs it, we done want your money, cars or whatever, I only care about my son's happiness. Look at my poor son, he can't even get decent a job because of your son,are you happy now? Now leave my shop please."

She stood up smiling and thanked my mother for been understanding and walked out.

What?! A divorce ? Am not ready for a divorce, I still love him, how can my mom make such decision just like that?

No no no, I can't leave Kwang-Su, how do I tell my mom this?

God no this ain't happening.

My mom looked at me for a few seconds after they left and I bowed my head.

"My son, you will sign the divorce when they bring it, you will sign it,I can't have my only son suffer like this, you don't deserve to be treated this way ,I can't bear it as your mother, if you want your mother to live long please divorce him and meet someone better without family issues, see how handsome you are, you will find someone else very soon OK?"

I kept quiet, stood up and went to my room, closed my door and as usual cried myself to sleep.
