Once upon a time there was a slug who wanted to fly. When he told his friends they laughed and told him he could never do it. But that just made him want to do it even more.
To help him fly he asked a friendly butterfly for help. She agreed to help.
She helped him make some wings then sent him to the top of the highest tree in the garden.
Immediately, feeling confident, he jump off the end of a the branch like an Olympic diver (without all the tricks) and tried to flap his makeshift wings.
For a moment, it worked! And for a split second he was soaring to the air above the shocked gazes of his friends but then he started to spiral out of control down towards the suddenly hard looking earth. He braced himself for the inevitable crash that was about to come.
With a resounding thump he hit the floor with immense force and collapsed into a soggy ball of mush.
"Ow," he thought to himself as he drifted away into the welcoming world of unconsciousness." Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. . ."
