"Teddy!" Savanna yelled as she burst through my front door, unannounced.

"Don't you know how to knock?" I looked over the back of my couch incredulously.

"A new haunted house opened up for Halloween," she stated as though I had never opened my mouth in the first place.

"And?" I splayed my hands out in front of me, asking for more information.

"Emily is going, and I dare you to go with her." The grin on her face gave her away.

"What are you trying to pull?"

"I'll give you thirty dollars if you go through the whole thing with Emily."

"Do you really believe Emily can make it through the first five minutes? She's afraid of her own breathing," I pushed myself up, letting my legs hang over the arm of the couch as I sat.

"She wants to show her boyfriend she isn't scared or something. I don't remember all the details," she trailed off as she wandered into my kitchen.

"Fine, but you better not eat all my Doritos while I'm gone," I said accusingly.

I had always wanted to go to a haunted house, truthfully, I just didn't want to go alone. I shuffled to my bedroom, throwing on the first thing I found when I opened my closet.

It wasn't long before Emily came to pick me up. She made small talk about her boyfriend, Thomas, along the way.

The haunted house was only a few minutes down away from my house. It was really an 18th century home that was owned by a rich family. They didn't live there, of course, but set the house up as a haunted house attraction every year. It was really more of a historical site.

"Emily, are you sure you want to do this?" I could practically see the chills running down her spine before we had even gotten out of the car.

"Thomas said I wouldn't go through the house because I'm too much of a wimp," she said before stepping out of the car.

"Well, where is Thomas? Why didn't he come? Or is he too much of a wimp?"

Emily narrowed her eyes a bit, having a bit of trouble distinguishing the sarcasm in my voice since it was pretty much my regular tone, "He's at a party with his parents. I'm supposed to meet him after this."

"If you make it out alive," I said in my best Frankenstein impression.

Emily couldn't stop giggling as we got our tickets and stood in the line to wait.

So far, there weren't a lot of people waiting around. I was thankful for that, because this would be much less embarrassing with less people around.

The only other group was a group of boys trying to scare their girlfriends, who were already clinging to their arms. I couldn't tell if they were really scared, or just trying to get closer to the boys. All of their costumes were lame or stereotypical.

One of the boys, who appeared to be the only one without a girl on his arm, just had large pieces of blue glitter slapped haphazardly across his cheeks. I had to turn around to try and contain my laughter, but Emily knew something was up.

"What's so funny?" She was trying to whisper, which only made everything seem even more funny to me. All I could do was gesture towards the boy.

"At least he's cute," Emily said, a bit too loudly.

The boy stopped and looked at us, confused for a second. I could only imagine the thoughts running through his head. I probably looked like some kind of creature that had just crawled out of the swamp and wrestled with a cat, while Emily looked a bit childish in her witch costume. I saw a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

He finally shook his head and turned back to his group of friends, albeit looking a bit bored. I let out a sigh of relief.

The tour guide glanced down at his watch impatiently and then up at the crowd, almost disappointed, "Is this everyone?" A few people looked around, and then nodded.

"Then let the show begin!" The guide shouted dramatically, turning with a theatrical flip of his cape.

"Wow, I'm terrified so far," I muttered sarcastically, half to myself.
