Chapter 30-
Today was day three without Justin. It had been over 72 hours since she had laid eyes on him. 72 hours since she had been able to touch him, kiss him, tell him that she loved him.
Each day the sun would rise and Alexis would glance over to the large empty space in the bed next to her. He was supposed to be there. Sitting up, watching over her like he did most mornings. She had always found it comforting to open her eyes and let his hazel orbs be the first things she saw every day.
Yet now, there were no hazel brown eyes to greet her. No boy to smile at her and tell her good morning. He was gone, and she didn't know when he was coming back.
For three days, she had been walking around with her phone glued to her hip. Desperately hoping that he would call, that she could receive some assurance that he was alright... wherever he was.
But today was the fourth day, and Justin's name was just as absent from her phone as he was in the bed next to her. She clung onto the words that he had spoken to her minutes before he had left. Those were the words she would have to have faith in. Those were the words that would get her through her time without him.
She loved him. She loved every part of him, despite the dangerous man that he was.
And no matter where he was on the planet, or how long it would be until she saw him again, she would continue to love him undoubtedly.
And this is why she wouldn't cry. She hadn't shed a tear since the night he had left her. She was strong. Their love was strong. In her heart she knew she would see him again. And when she felt weak, she would simply close her eyes and let her memory take her back to him. Back to the words they had shared with one another.
"Wake up Princess." He had called to her.
She shifted in her sleep, her eyes blinking open to recognize his familiar figure as he sat on the edge of their bed next to her.
"Justin." She whispered, her voice sounding hoarse. She sat up in the bed, her eyes glancing to the clock on the table next to them. "What took you so long? It's after midnight." She spoke.
His hand found hers in the darkness and she felt him lace her fingers with his.
"I know it's late, I'm sorry."
"Is Ben alright? Did you get him out of jail?" Alexis asked quickly, her concern for her brother returning to her mind.
"Yes, he'll be released in the morning when bail is posted." He told her.
"Thank god." She sighed, the weight of worrying for her brother slipped off of her shoulders. "What did they arrest him for?"
"They believe they had evidence placing Ben at the scene of a murder. However, Ben's alibi is solid."
"When was this?" Alexis asked.
"The night of my birthday."
"But I know for certain that Ben was here at the party all night. He couldn't have had anything to do with a murder that night."
"I know." Justin nodded.
"So somebody is trying to frame him?"
"Not frame him necessarily. They're warning him."
Alexis shifted in the bed. "What are you talking about? Who is trying to warn Ben and for what?"
"Ben has been working closely with me on discovering the identity of whoever is threatening you. Whoever it is must have known we were getting close and so they had Ben arrested in order to scare us off. They want us to know that they have power too. The power to have us possibly serve a lot of time for our many crimes."
