Chapter 5- Sydes college

"Alex honey, we've been here for 5 weeks now and I think you should start college, you still need your education. But if you're not ready yet then I understand."

"Oh yes, I had completely forgotten about college. I'm not sure if I'm ready yet or not but I guess there's no harm in trying to see how it goes." I don't want to go to college at all but my dad is right, I do still need an education if I want any chances for a better future.

"Which college is the closest in this town?" I don't fancy travelling far everyday, surprisingly I am happy in our new home and I don't want to be away from it.

"Well, there's only one college here Alex, it's Sydes college."

"Half the town must go there. That must be so many people." I answer in shock.

"You'd be surprised, this town is really small and closed off from the rest of the world, you'd know that if you left the house or the woods out back." He looks at me playing with a smile on his face.

"I suppose you're right. I've just grown too comfortable where I am." I've never really been the person to go out and socialise and meet people. Other than Daniel, I never had any friends. It's not that I can't get them, people always try and be friendly with me and invite me to events, I've just never really been interested. Even when I first met Daniel all I wanted was for him to leave me alone but he stayed persistent to be in my life so eventually I just gave in to him.

"You definitely have. Anyways, going back to the subject, the college have agreed that you can start whenever you're ready, maybe you could start tomorrow?"

"Wow, that was soon. Erm sure, tomorrow it is. I'll make sure I'm up bright and early, you're driving me there."

He smiles at me as I bargain with him. "Anything to get you out the house honey. I'll drive you everyday if I have to."

Beep, beep, beep...

Ugh, I forgot how much I hate that sound in the morning. I lazily reach over and hit the alarm clock with my hand. Silence fills the room, much better. Maybe I could close my eyes for another 5 minutes.

As I close my eyes my dad bursts in through the doors "Wakey, wakey honey, time for your first day." He opens the curtains to let the morning sun beam through the window and straight into my eyes.

"Ahh dad, did you have to do that?" I said to him in a grumpy tone.

"Yes I did, I know you Alex, I bet my last pound that you were thinking about going back to sleep for a couple more minutes."

"I hate it when your right dad."

"Come on, get ready, get something to eat then I'm driving you to college." He leaves the room so that I can get myself ready.

I drag myself out from underneath my warm covers and walk over to my built in wardrobe. In the past 5 weeks my dad has been going back and forward collecting all our stuff from our old home, so all of our belongings that we need are with us. He's also went shopping to buy other things to fill the house that we didn't want from our old home like new kitchen accessories and decor. I open up my wardrobe and pick a black vest and dark coloured slim fit jeans and a pair of black converse shoes.

I go to my bathroom that is connected to my room and wash my face and brush my teeth. After I finish getting ready, I go downstairs expecting that I would have to make breakfast but my father is standing in the kitchen flipping pancakes on the frying pan. I walk over smiling to this nice surprise and sit down on the stool.

"Do I see you making pancakes or am I still dreaming?" I say laughing to myself.

"Ha ha, very funny Alex. I thought I'd be nice and try to make us some pancakes." He slides the freshly made pancake onto my plate and adds some caramel sauce.

I pick up my fork and knife and eat my first bite. "They taste amazing dad, since when did you learn to cook?"

"Well I thought because we no longer have mum, someone has to cook and I don't want you to have to cook everyday. Although your meals are lovely, I want to do something. I bought a cooking book when I was shopping for kitchen utilities, it's really easy to follow."

"Yep, I'm still dreaming."

My dad laughs and shakes his head. "Come on you let's get you to college."

My dad and I get into his car and begin our way to the college. "So honey, what subject you thinking on taking? Same as before?"

"I have a choice so soon?" This town never fails to surprise me.

"Yes, there's not a lot of students so there's always room in any subject. That's what the college told me. They offer math, English, science, Spanish, art, geography and psychology."

"Science, definitely science. The other subjects don't really peak any interest for me."

"Fair enough, same as before then. At least you'll know what you're doing."

My dad pulls up to the college entrance and he kisses me on my forehead and tells me to have a good day. He drives away and beeps his horn at me. I nervously begin to walk into the building. The first thing I see as I walk in is a front desk with a kind looking lady sitting at the desk. She looks up at me with a great big smile on her face and says "Hi, my name is Mrs Roberts, how can I help you?"

"Erm my name is Alex, Alex Valeria. I'm here to start my first day." I stand there uncomfortably.

"Ah Yes, Alex. I was told that I was to be expecting you. Which subject would you like to take and you can start right away. I'll take you to the class."

"Could... could I do science please?"

"Nice choice, of course, Charles Darwin awaits for you in room 6B. If you'd like to follow me." She stands up from behind her desk and guides me to my class.

Mrs Roberts opens the door to classroom 6B and says "Good morning Mr Collins, this is Alex and she will she joining your subject." Mrs Roberts looks over to me "If you need anything else or have any queries, don't hesitate to ask me. Enjoy your first class." She walks down the school hall in her tall high heel shoes and leaves.

I look into the class and see about 6 students, all of them are sat in their seats staring up at me. They all look average apart from one girl. She looks absolutely beautiful, her gorgeous brown eyes stare at me, she has long black hair and a really nice figure to her body, her fashion is clearly better than mine and anyone else's in the room in that matter.

"Hi Alex, I'm sure you caught my name, we are learning about evolution this month and you will be sat next to Macie. She's the girl with long back hair. Macie would you put up your hand please."

The girl that I was just admiring at put her hand up into the air. I'm sat next to her? How will I ever concentrate.

I walk across the classroom and take my seat next to the beautiful girl, Macie. I begin to blush a little in her presence. As I turn to look at her I find that she is already looking at me.

"Hey Alex, I heard that we were going to have a new girl. I also heard that you've recently moved to the neighbourhood. A few people have given descriptions of you because everyone is nosy in this town with it being small and all. I must say their descriptions were far off, you're so much more beautiful than I imagined."

My cheeks flare up and heat rushes through my whole body "Oh, thank you. Why am I surprised about this town, it finds a new way to surprise me everyday." I smile at her.

She laughs at my reply and turns her head back to the front of the class.

By the end of the day I had finished all the set tasks but couldn't seem to get one thought out of my head, I couldn't stop thinking about Macie.
