alternate ending

A/n my friend helped me come up with the idea to make an alternate ending to the Hanahaki story.

John and Alex were watching a movie together on their couch when Martha called John. They talked for a bit and then John ended the call with, "Ok, love you..bye." Alex felt the urge again. Alex sprinted away to the bathroom and threw up, clinging onto the side of the rim desperately with shaking arms. John ran in behind Alex and gasped at the sight of his bestfriend. John crouched beside Alex and held his hair back while he rubbed the boy's back gently. "Are...are you OK?" John asked quietly when Alex had stopped vomiting and was resting on the wall to breathe. "Yeah, I'm fine, .I'm gonna go lie down.." Alex whispered softly as he got up shakily. John frowned at the boy and got up too. "Here, let me carry you." He said and scooped his exhausted best friend up. He carried Alex into his room and set him down softly on his bed. Alex mumbled a thanks and turned away to close his eyes.

John walked back into the bathroom and without a thought about it flushed the contents of the bowl. He never noticed the blood covered petals.

"John, I'm sorry I didn't say anything to you about this." Alex whispered sadly as John held him, sobbing. Laf,  Herc and Peggy all stood behind them,  tears streaming from their eyes and thick sobs were coming from Peggy and Laf. Alex started choking on his air slightly and once he regained his breath he gestured to them to come to the side of the hospital bed. Alex looked up at all of them and smiled sadly. Alex was dying and becoming weaker and weaker every second.
"I love you, Mon petit lion." Laf pressed a kiss softly to Alex's pale face. "Je suis désolé." Alex whispered back. You He stepped back from his adopted brother's bed to let Herc through.
"I'm gonna miss you, little man." Herc sobbed and hugged Alex softly. "I will too,  Herc." Alex whispered.
Peggy stepped through next. "Alex, you've always been there for me in life no matter what. You've always been my platonic Knight in shining armour." Peggy whispered and ran her hand softly through Alex's hair and placed a kiss on his forehead. "I love you like a sister, Peggs, please don't be upset when I'm gone. " Now it was time for John to say his goodbyes.
"A-Alex.. I'm sorry for not n-noticing before. And.. You've always been the best to me and my closet friend. You changed my life for the better and all I can say is thank you. For existing and being my friend." John had fallen into his knees halfway through from sobbing. John's head shot up as Alex's heart monitor started getting slower.
"J-John.. I d-don't feel so good.." Alex murmured softly, his eyes were drifting around the room slowly.
"John..Peggy.. Herc.. Laf.. I don't want to go! I dont want to go!  P-please! I don't want to leave you guys here.. " Alex whimpered as everything started to become blurry. Alex's monitor flat lined and John let out am anguished scream and clung onto the sheets of Alex's bed. Herc and Laf sobbed into each other and Peggy fell to her knees and cried into her hands. John screamed when Doctors tried to tell him to leave. They forcibly had to drag John out from his dead friend's room. John pounded on the closed door and when he finally stopped he curled up in a small ball outside the door, still crying and screaming.

"Hey Alex,  I'm sorry I'm so late. Here- I brought you yellow roses today. Isn't Spring just lovely this year? Oh, I should tell you some things that have happened since you left. John...couldn't take what happened. He went insane and took his life. Is he happy up there with you? I hope you guys are well. Herc and Laf got married and adopted a child and-Oh! I also came out to my family. You were right, you know. They all accepted me for who I was in the end. It's kind of lonely now that you left. I have to get going now, but I'll see you guys later, OK?" Peggy smiled and placed the flowers at stone's base. She kissed the stone softly and then ran her hand on the stone next to Alex's. John's grave. They had been buried next to each other,  just like John has requested when he killed himself. ..I still remember it like yesterday. When we were all young kids in college. Peggy walked away again for another year.

John and Alex stood on the ground above their graves and watched Peggy walk away slowly. They looked and each other and smiled and shared a brief kiss. Alex took John's hand in his and walked slowly away into the sunset and they disappeared into the wind.
