When I arrived I went straight to my locker to get my stuff for the first day of junior high school. After that, I headed over to where Penelope was standing. She smiled brightly at me.
"Hey, Pen! Are you excited!" I asked, surprised that I didn't stutter out of nervousness.
"For what Noh?" That was her nickname like mine of hers, nothing too big. We've had those forever.
"Oh, just the first day of middle school." She rolled her eyes and asked, "How on earth are you excited for that?"
"Because I am," I said stubbornly with a pout. I didn't hear her but under her breath, she let out a "Cute."
I wanted to ask her out right then, but I just couldn't ask her quite yet I was scared of what she'd say. What if she rejects me or doesn't want to even be friends anymore?
All of the questions only told me to put some distance between us. Of course, I didn't want to but I didn't want to ruin the close relationship we already had.
"What class do you have?" I smiled at the thought of old times having all of our classes together. I forgot how different it could be if that didn't happen. After all, we are in a new school now.
"Math!" She exclaimed her eyes lighting up in anticipation, snapping me out of my thoughts.
My face fell after looking at my paper. "What's wrong?" She asked in a caring way like she always did. "English." I finally muttered.
"Oh...Ok, then can I see your schedule?" She suggested still having a glimmer of hope. That was my Penelope, always optimistic. That was one of my favorite traits about her. Of course not the only one. As if.
<Noah's Schedule>

2) Social Studies
3) Gym
4) Math
5) Health

7) Art
<Penelope's Schedule>

"Well, we have Art together." She sadly smiled at me. For once I thought it would be okay but the sadness told me otherwise.
"You said you have the math" Some joined in from behind making us jump.
"Hey, Pen." The anger boiled inside of me as I was the only one who would get to call her Pen. I turned to see Rickey, he was my mortal enemy. Always after my girl. Geez, I'm getting so possessive.
"Don't call me that." She stepped back allowing me to give a taunting look to Rickey. He glared back and asked.
"You said you have math?" Penelope hesitated. "Yeah...?" "Cool let's go then I do too." Wait...WHAT?!?! There is no way that Penelope would g-- "Alright," she plainly replied. "See you in Art potato. She hadn't used that in a while.
What on earth. How could she just go with him? I thought she was on my side when she protected my nickname and hesitated. Or maybe it's that she doesn't want to be seen with me.
"I get a feeling she doesn't like me," I mumbled to myself. "But I do!" I jumped again.
"Yah!" I yelled. But softened seeing Caroline. She was very pretty and every boy loved her. Even Rickey did. Except all I liked were the looks. She got annoying fast and only talked about herself. If I could constantly eye roll I would.
She asked for my schedule and I showed it to her, we have all our classes together. Yay me! Here the sarcasm there? Ugh... Me with Caroline and Penelope with Rickey.
Caroline had liked so many guys but ended up only liking me in the end because of my rejection. Now she'll never stop.
But then an idea came to mind as she started to ramble on about how much she liked me on the way to class.
I grinned mischeviously in my head.
