Oh Penelope

In the evening, my Penelope, sweet, sweet Penelope lies in her bedroom, next door to mine, in different apartments. We made a window in between the two just so we could talk.

"Oh Penelope," I sighed, but then made myself scarce because I realized that I said it out loud.

"What if she heard me!" I thought to myself. "Well, I guess I needed to tell her somehow." I laughed at my little comment.

"Oh, Penelope!" I thought, not realizing, that I shouted it at the top of my lungs. I prayed that she didn't hear it. Then the inevitable happened.

"What's up Noh?" Penelope yawned. She gave me a questioning look but I could see all the humor in her eyes.

"Nothing." I softly smiled forgetting everything I had ever worried about in my entire life. Boy if I could see the smile she showed me next forever, I would.

My heart melted as she said what she did next. "'Night Noh," She said softly. "See you tomorrow, for another day of adventures!"

(In reality...)

"WAKE UP BUTHEAD!!!" Kailyn and Mckenna shouted as I woke up form that amazing dream. They always had to ruin it for me, didn't they?

"Come on little bro," Mckenna always did know what to say to calm me down again though, she said, "You're going to be late for your first day of school." She reminded me.

"Stop babying him so much, Mckenna!" Kailyn budded in. "He's going into 8th grade for crying out loud!"

Mckenna snapped up. "You're right!" "Sorry, little bro, " I knew where this was headed. " We aren't going to babysit you forever, now come on let's go!"

Kailyn budded in again, "Hey," she went soft, "I made your favorite for breakfast." Kailyn had always had her faults. But we got along fine when we stopped fighting and put our walls down.

Both of the twins left so I could get dressed. I pulled out a nice button up, salmon-colored shirt from my dresser. I wore it because Penelope had given it to me as a birthday present just 2 weeks before.

I remember the note saying. "I love you Noh! I hope our friendship will keep becoming stronger. Besides, we wouldn't want you to go to school without an amazing outfit on the first day of school now, would we?"

Grabbing my comb, I looked in the mirror to comb my dirty blond hair. And I stared into my hazel eyes and told myself I would tell her that day!

To be completely honest, I was petrified! But I was always a go-getter! Well... that was a big fat lie. The truth is I'm a wallflower, that's why I have one friend and one friend only, Penelope.

Remembering what I was doing suddenly, I grabbed my backpack and ran downstairs to grab breakfast. After all, my sisters had done so much. They had been the ones to take care of me since mom and dad had died.

They got caught in 9/11. Both were in their companies' meetings. Mom was going to get a promotion, and dad was going to promote one of his workers. They were always, well, what's the word? Oh, yea, "Business! Business! Business!"

Yet I still loved them. Now we live in a small apartment that my sisters had what they called, "modernized". Although I will admit; it is pretty cool looking.

Next to Penelope's, I have a loft room, with a small bed, mirror, closet, and a rustic night stand with a lamp that has holes in it to give the illusion of stars.

I always am/was/will be grateful for what they've done for me.
