Nyx POV
Everything stopped. Nobody said anything. Nobody so much as twitched. The three girls that had run in just stared at the blonde and I, all three displaying various degrees of shock. The blonde smirked, and like an attacking bat, swooped in and kissed me.
I heard the raven-haired girl make a sound like a cat with a hairball, while the white-haired girl walked between us and shoved us apart. While the two of them argued, the redhead walked over and tried to break them up.
The raven-haired girl gently took my hand and led me away from the dorm room. We eventually ended up in the library, and she stopped leading me forward. She sighed, and sat down. She motioned for me to grab a book and do the same.
After I grabbed a book, I sat down next to her, and I began to read. The book was actually an interesting read. It was about a young prince that is forced to run from his kingdom in a machine with four or five of his most trusted men after his father is assassinated. After I read the first book, I went back for the second and third. As I opened the third book, I caught the girl smiling at me. I looked up at her, but she went back to her book. I shrugged, and we continued to read in silence.
After about six hours of reading, I felt something hit my shoulder. I looked over and saw the girl, her book forgotten in her lap, her head on my shoulder. Her rhythmic breathing told me she was asleep. I smiled, and went back to my book.
I fell asleep about an hour later.
Blake POV
When I woke up, I realized I was resting my head on someone. When I lifted my head up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I realized I'd been sleeping with my head on Nyx's shoulder. Luckily, the boy was still asleep, otherwise he would have seen me turn redder than Pyrrha's hair.
When my blush died down, I took the time to look at Nyx. Despite all the blood and cuts, he was still handsome.
Wait.
Blood and cuts?!?!?
I grabbed Nyx's sleeping form and cut his shirt open. What I saw nearly made me throw up.
Nyx's stomach and chest were a patchwork of old scars, stitches, and bloody bandages. While I didn't vomit, I did shriek in horror. When a student heard and raced over, he helped me get Nyx to the nurse.
2 hours later...
After the nurse was done patching him up, I grabbed Nyx's hand as tightly as I could. "Please....don't die on me..." I choked out. "Where's my brother?!?" I heard Yang scream angrily. "You can't see him right now. I'm afraid you'd only worsen his condition, should he wake up." The nurse explained.
Yang broke something, and I heard Ruby and Weiss' voices, trying to calm the blonde down. Eventually, the nurse came by and gently placed her hand on my back. "We're going to operate in a couple hours. I'll give you a pass to come back after we operate, OK sweetie?" The nurse said, a bright, comforting smile on her face.
I nodded, rubbing the tears from my eyes. The woman led me out, then closed the curtain around Nyx. I sighed, and walked back to my dorm.
6 hours later...
"Belladonna! To the nurse!!" Professor Oobleck cried. I snapped back to reality and stood. I thanked him and raced away. When I got there, I heard screaming and another sound I didn't recognize. The temperature in the room dropped quickly, and my breath crystallized in front of me. I began walking faster.
"WATTS! STOP, NO! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS WILL DO!!!" Nyx screamed. "Sedate him!" A doctor shouted. I heard a loud sound, and the temperature dropped even more. My lips and skin began turning blue.
"Nyx!!" I screamed. The temperature normalized, and Nyx stopped screaming. "B...la...ke...?" Nyx said, his voice strained. "Nyx, it's going to be OK. I swear, they're just trying to make sure you're OK." I said, opening the door. The second Nyx saw me, he began thrashing around again. I noticed they'd strapped him to the table.
"Nyx! Please, calm down!" I cried. Nyx began to scream again, and then he stopped. No movement, no sound, nothing. He was breathing, and that was it. "God damn. Those sedatives finally worked." A doctor said.
Nyx POV
When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed. I felt...awake. More so than I'd been yesterday. Was it yesterday? I don't know. When I woke up, the first person I saw was Blake. She was holding my hand, which would have made me blush under any other circumstances, but this was welcome. Over the last...week? Month? Two days? I don't know anymore. Blake and I talked, and she asked me where I'd been.
And just like that, everything crashing back.
What Salem did to me. What Watts took from me. What he took from that girl and pushed into me.
Watts took my power.
"I...I don't know..." I said, clutching my head in pain. "Hey, hey. You don't need to remember. All that's important is that you're back." Blake said, smiling. I looked at her, sadness in my eyes, and she hugged me tightly. I felt her shaking, and I heard a couple choked sobs escape. I hugged her back, and she began calming down.
"I'm glad you're back." Blake said after she let go.
Please. Don't say what I think you're about to say.
"I've had some time to think..." Blake said, clutching my hand.
No. Don't do it. You don't want me.
"I think..."
No. Stop.
"I think I'm in love with you."
Shit.
I let go of her hand.
"You don't want me. Trust me, Blake." I whispered.
"I know what you've been through." She said, trying to take my hand.
"NO, YOU DON'T!!!" I shouted, my hair turning white and frost forming on my skin.
"Nyx, please. Calm down-" Blake tried, but the strain was too much. My eyes began to glow, and I began to scream.
And then there was a bright white flash, and the sound of the entire room freezing.
