"James A. Lancaster, 16, reported missing on Saturday March 22, 2014."
I look up abruptly from my homework and turn the volume up on my tv. A picture of him pops up on the screen. I know him, not personally just that he goes to my school and is a year younger than me. The picture of him is his school photo. He's wearing a plain green t-shirt with his blonde hair spiked up and he has a half smile etched on his face. Almost like he was smirking at the camera.
"James was with his friends 2 nights before in a cabin up by Lake Erie. No one knew the boys were together until one of them, Niall Horan reported him missing today, Saturday March 22."
Hm. That was weird, why wait two days to report your friend missing? Why didn't his parents report him missing after he didn't come home?
"Well that's it for now. Please keep an eye out for James," His school picture flashes once more on the screen. "Blonde hair, blue eyes, 5 foot 11 inches, last seen in a plaid button up shirt. Thank you."
The screen goes black briefly before going into a commercial about car insurance. I lay back on my bed twirling my pen between my two fingers. Now why would someone report their friend missing after 2 days? What happened? Who was there? That was a dumb question, I knew exactly who was there. Niall is good friends with Harry Styles and I can guess he was there. But waw there anyone else?
I mean it's not that I didn't like Harry, who am I kidding I didn't like Harry. Of course I didn't hate him but just something was always off about him like whenever he was around I would always get an uneasy feeling. Also, he was very rude to everyone.
I don't know why but something was itching inside of me to know more about this case. I barely even knew the kid but something inside of me told me even if I didn't know him I still want him to be found. I wonder how his parents are feeling about this? Has his mother been hysterically crying for the past couple of days? Are his siblings worried? Does he even have siblings? A million more questions cloud my mind.
I have always had a strong interest for police work. Like trying to figure out a huge case and going to investigate, that sort of thing. My mom says it's all the crime shows I watch on tv that has my mind in a jumbled mess but I could see myself doing that as a job one day.
I sigh as I stand up from my bed, twisting my body to crack my back. I had been doing my project for a couple hours now. I was kind of pissed too because this week we had spring break and my annoying math teacher assigned us a project. I, of course being the procrastinator I am was doing it 2 days before it was due but I didn't really care I hate math anyway. Suddenly an idea sparks in my head. I pull a camo sweatshirt over my head and jog downstairs. I grab the keys off the kitchen counter and almost make it out the door when I hear,
"Payton, honey where are you going?" My mother asks. She's always been on my case ever since I came home ten minutes after curfew. It wasn't my fault really, I had to drop a couple people before I could make it home. It shouldn't be a big deal either it was only 10 minutes but that's how my mom is.
"I was just going to go meet Samantha for coffee." I lie. I shift on my feet hoping she believes it. It was just a little white lie.
"Oh okay well just make sure you come back before 10." She responds not asking any questions.
I glance at the clock it was only 6. That gave me plenty of time. Right?
"Will do Mom, bye!" I run out the door without waiting for a reply. I twirl my keys around my finger before unlocking my car door and sliding inside the drivers side. If I was going to get answers about this case I had to ask one of the people who knows the most about it. And I know exactly where to find him.
um so idk if this is long or short as you can tell this is my first story so sorry if it's not too good. also I'm writing this on my phone so sorry if there are errors I'll try to fix them later on when I have my computer. I will be posting a couple chapters just to see if anyone likes the idea of the story.
oh yeah comment and vote if you want
