note that im just using dates as a basis. i obvs dont know exactly when they met okay. on that note, here is my lame excuse for a fanfic.

Patrick

“Hey Tazer, wait up” Pat calls to Jon while walking out of locker room. He could tell something was wrong by the way Jon looked impossibly more serious than he normally does. After a loss Jon is usually quiet, going over every play and trying to figure out what they could have done better. What he could have done better. But tonight, he looked lost. He even snapped at the reporters, which he never really does. Something, Pat told himself, other than the lost was bothering him. Pat knew he had a lot of talking to do before he could pry whatever was bothering Jon out of him.

Jon slowed his pace to allow Pat to catch up a little faster, but he didn’t slow down quite enough, so Pat ended up jogging after him anyway. “What’s up man?”

Jon cocks his head to the side just slightly so that Patrick can see just how lost he really does look. “Just upset about the bullshit loss.”

“Yeah, I know that much. But what else?”

Jon just chuckles. Pat notices how forced it looks. Yeah, something is definitely wrong.

He sighs just as they reach their cars and Jon just looks at him. His expression tells Pat that he’s waiting for him to say more, so he does. “You up for some Mario Cart then?” Jon looks slightly relieved that Pat decided to let it go, but still strained in the way that was before.

“Yeah. Sounds good.” And as they both climb into their own cars, Pat realizes that neither of them specified who’s house they were going to. Because they both just knew.

In the 4.5 years they have spent as teammates, they’ve grown to be incredibly close. Pat knows Jon better than Pat knows himself. (Okay maybe not, but its damn close.) Jon, however, probably does know Pat better than Pat knows himself (not that Pat would ever ever admit that.) Its not necessarily that Pat and Jon wanted to become best friends, because they are polar opposites and all, but it was more due to the situation; the two young kids bringing life and hockey back to Chicago. Not that either of them mind it now though (the beginning was rough because all Pat wanted to do was go out and party, while Jon was more into all of his working out and gross protein shakes or whatever), because, well, where would they be without each other?

Patrick takes a second to ponder that while he climbs out of his car; he arrived at Jon’s parking garage before Jon himself did so he just sits in his car and waits. Where would Pat be without Captain Serious? Lost. The word crosses Pat’s mind before he even realizes it. He shakes his head jerkily trying to shake the thought right out of his head. Where had that even come from anyway? Sure Jon is his best friend, captain and linemate, but Pat does’t think that would mean he would be lost without Jon. Upset maybe but lost? He thinks not.
