Jonathan

Jon comes back for their first playoff game of the season against the Phoenix Coyotes. He obviously has a target on his back because teams will do that, but he turns that into motivation and scores on his first shot back. Despite the energy and adrenaline running through everyone’s veins, they end up losing the game 3-2 in overtime, and it sucks. They do manage, however, to pull out an overtime 4-3 win two nights later which sends the series back up to Chicago. Things don’t get any easier from there.

After Hossa is taken out by a horrific hit in game 3, things don’t get any easier. The Coyotes go up 3-1 in the series. The Hawks end up pushing it into a game 6.

Everyone is so distressed and feeling like shit that no one has really hung out with each other. (Except Duncs and Seabs because they live together but that doesn’t really count.) Jon is starting to feel a little lonely, so when Pat invites him over, he doesn’t hesitate to say no. It vaguely registers with him that if it had been anyone else, he isn’t entirely sure he would have said yes at all.

They hangout the day before game 6 over at Pat’s place because Jon needs to get out of his own house, and Pat never seems to mind making Jon pick from his (in Jon’s mind awful) array of movies. Tonight though, Jon doesn’t care how terrible the movie is. He just wants to get his mind off of everything thats been going on. He can still feel his symptoms from time to time, but nothing he can’t handle. (The booze that Pat always has on hand doesn’t hurt either.)

It’s an admittedly normal night until half way through the Bourne Ultimatum (which Jon is surprised Patrick even owns). Out of no where, Pat slides from his half of the couch so that he is sitting pressed up against Jon’s side. He kind of wants to back away, but Pat has him positioned between the arm rest and Pat’s body, and is pressing against Jon with enough weight that it just pins Jon into place. The next thing he knows, Pat’s face is right in his, pressing their lips together.

Jon goes stiff at the sudden turn of events. He wants to push Patrick off of him, but something keeps him there, rooted in place while Patrick kisses him. After a few seconds Pat pulls back, and looks at Jon’s face. Jon just blinks at him. “What the hell Patrick?!”

Jon watches his face frown, like it wasn’t the reaction he was hoping for. (What was he hoping for?) “I- I thought that-” he trailed off. He looked pained almost. This was all too much for Jon. Now is not the time for cryptic messages or for him to be kissing his best friend.

“You thought what?” he demanded.

Pat just looked at him, still pained, and saddened. Jon quickly pushed Patrick away and headed for the door. When he turned back before he opened it, Patrick was still sitting on the couch, looking defeated.
