"We've made a lot of progress," Alicia said with a smile.
"No we didn't," Gabriel muttered. "We're not even dating."
She smacked him with a book which practically bounced off of him. He smiled at its ineffectiveness.
"You know what I meant," Alicia huffed at the flirt. "You have the highest GPA in all the boys' sports teams."
When Alicia began her tutoring program, she never expected Gabriel would have signed up. He played varsity for the basketball team and led the swim team to finals all in his freshman year. Now as a senior, he had no reason to suddenly study.
"Would you please give me your unit test?"
As he handed her the heavy packet, he said, "You should be getting paid for this."
"I am. Seeing your grades go up is enough for me."
He was quiet.
She flipped through the test. "You've improved so much. I'm really proud of you." Alicia looked up from the paper and saw him looking at her with an unreadable gaze. She looked away in embarrassment. "Let's start with conic sections."
"Ok..."
"Are you feeling alright?"
"Just a little tired. The test was more draining than a mile run."
"Forcing yourself to study when you can't focus is worse than not studying at all," Alicia reminded him. "We can move our session to next-"
"No, it's ok. I just want some motivation," he joked.
Alicia laughed. "What? You want me as your cheerleader? Don't you have enough of them?"
"You're different."
She rolled her eyes. "Why thank-"
"And better."
"How...?"
Gabriel let out a sigh. "I never told you why I signed up for your tutoring program..." He paused. "Your friends made you go to my basketball game once. You never cheered because you were too busy reading. I would've been pissed but... I wanted to be the reason to make you look up from your book."
"Gabriel, I-"
"I knew you would never consider someone like me," he said softly. "But please, I-"
He moved forward but Alicia put a textbook between them.
"I-I'm sorry," Alicia stammered, not able to look at him. "I've always admired you and your determination in and out of the classroom. In our sessions, I started liking you, but... I don't think you can ever like someone like me. Besides, I-I've never kissed any-"
Gabriel pushed the textbook away and pulled Alicia into a kiss. He was able to show his own determination of how much he cared for her, just as she did in return.
When they stopped for air, Gabriel said with a grin, "That's what I call motivation. So... conic sections?"
"How can I possibly teach you math after that?" She sputtered.
"What if I teach you more about kissing afterwards? It includes examples..."
"Maybe... If you can complete my review worksheet by yourself."
"If that means I can kiss you again."
As Alicia showed him a new set of formulas, Gabriel chuckled to himself. Now we made a lot of progress."
I hope you all enjoy that little love story. I myself love it so much, I am hoping to make it a full on short-story once I get the chance. More dialogue, drama, love...
As you have read in the description, this is a sample submission for Netflix's The Kissing Booth Movie Contest. Hopefully my story inspired you to write your own love stories. If you want to join the contest, simply come up with a 500-word high school love story, forbidden or not, and put in the #TKBMovieContest. Be sure to check up the official page for more details of the contest.

Maybe you can even make a one-shot for TGGBB, who knows. I would love to read some of that. Tweet out the link and tag me so I can check it out!
Have fun everyone and happy writing!

P.S. I absolutely love this story. It has way more potential but it is right now limited to a 500-word limit. Hopefully, it can become a short story. Look out for that some day 😉
