My Accidental Death

Chapter 2

I couldn't stop staring at where my dead body had laid only a few hours ago.  My blood was still on the street mixing with the water and flowing towards the drain. I flinched whenever a car passed.

I couldn't get the image of my cold dead eyes out of my head. They looked so...empty. I watched as the coroner hauled my body away. I watched as an old man pushed a brand new wooden cross into the grass next to where  I had been hit.

I watched as the police questioned Tyler the guy who had hit me. I watched as everyone moved on with their day. I would never be able to move on with my day now, i was just at a standstill.

Watching everyone else get to live. I couldn't feel the rain nor the icy hands of the wind anymore. At some point i had left my spot on the curb and started walking. I had no idea where my feet were taking me until I ended up outside of Nikki's house.

Did she know yet? I went to reach for the doorbell but quickly realized I no longer possessed the ability to push or hold things.

((Flash Back))

"Reese wait up" I called after my little brother. I get it was Halloween and he was excited but jeesh the kid needed to calm the fuck down.

"Chill he's not gonna disappear, wait I only see his head" my best friend Becca said from my side.

We both laughed at the joke aimed at his camouflage outfit. I followed her and my little brother up the front steps of the biggest house I'd ever seen.

"Reese quit ringing the doorbell if they haven't answered yet their not going to"

"But they have a huge house, that means their rich that means full size candy bars" Reese whined.

I pushed the bell one last time so he could see I wasn't trying to kill his fun and pointed him in the direction of another house watching him sprint towards it.

A bittersweet memory...

I walk right through the door and up the stairs. It took a couple tries but I was able to walk up them without sinking straight through.  So far I've learned that if I don't want to sink through something I have to focus really hard on doing that particular thing.

For example walking up stairs or touching the pictures hanging on the wall.

I made it to Nikki's room and of course her door was shut. I was so focused on being able to actually move things I walked right into her door. As soon as I heard the bang from my face hitting her door I heard two girly screams. Wait... two screams?

I floated through the door and immediately saw my girlfriend tangled up in bed with her ex, Kaitlyn. I guess she moved on quickly.

I went to walk away when her phone rang. Usually that wouldn't have stopped me but fergalicious was playing and that could only mean one thing....Becka was calling.

"Shhhh her obnoxious best friend is calling, again." Nikki said "Hey B what's up?"

"She's dead" the shaky voice of my best friend came over the line.

"Who's dead? Is this another crying session because somebody died on your show" Nikki said laughing and looked at kaitlyn rolling her eyes.

"Anastasia's dead. She was in a really bad car accident a couple hours ago. They said she was dead on impact....At least she didn't feel any pain ya know... I thought you should know..."

It was clear from her voice that Becka had been crying for awhile.

"I have to go" Nikki said and hung up the phone.

"You need to leave right now" she barely looked at Kaitlyn when she talked. Instead she looked right at me, or well through me.

Kaitlyn packed her stuff up and left closing the door behind her. I sat there for a few minutes watching Nikki. She was cheating on me, but for how long. A couple days, weeks, the entire two years we've been together? As I got up to leave I heard a quiet sob from the corner.

"I'm so sorry Anna, I'm so so sorry. I'm so stupid, you were enough for me I swear you were I just self sabotaged when things got serious. I know you can't hear me but i love you baby I always have and I always will."

"Bullshit" I whispered. Then i did what i should have done two years ago.

I walked away.
