"Hi Gwen, good morning", bati ko sa ka-officemate ko sa katabing cubicle na tulad ko ay nagtatrabaho bilang isang junior web developer sa isang malaking IT company.
"Good morning din Sab, may chika ako sa'yo" nakangiti niyang tugon at lumapit sa'kin sakay sa kanyang swivel chair.
May bago tayong senior web developer
"Guess what? May bago tayong lead at balita ko sobrang nakakabilib daw ang portfolio niya" wika ni Gwen sa mahinang boses.
Napangiti ako sa sinabi niya.
Sobrang guwapo niya to the heaven's level!
"Let me guess Gwen, yung bagong senior web developer natin, super uber guwapo. Am I right?" nakangiti kong tanong sa kanya.
Gwen chuckled. "Alam mo Sabrina, kunti na lang talaga at maniniwala na akong isa kang fortune teller"
A smirk formed in my lips. "Lol, I just follow my instinct besides, I could tell the signs with how your eyes glistened with mischievousness" kunwa'y rason ko. Nobody in the office knows my secret.
And I want to keep that way.
Nag open ako ng laptop at naglog-in sa company account ko.
"May I have everyone's attention please", I heard Mr. Garcia's voice echoed throughout the whole production floor. He's our associate manager, overlooking at least 100 web developers.
Agad naming hininto ang ginagawa at lumapit doon sa maliit na platform kaharap sa cubicles namin.
Napansin ko ang matangkad na lalaking nakatalikod sa'min habang kinakausap si Mr. Garcia.
I am so impressed with this man! With his leadership and technical skills, he can bring the whole team at par with our tight competitors!
Yun ang nabasa ko sa isipan ng manager namin.
Wow! Ibang level din 'tong bagong lead namin
I have to read his mind kung ano ang nagugustuhan niya sa isang empleyado para sure thing na ang promotion ko this year!
But before I can delve into his mind, humarap siya sa'min habang nakapamulsa sa suot niyang slacks.
I look at our new lead in disbelief.
Wait, he's the guy from Puerto Café yesterday! The guy whom I can't read his mind.
Siya yung bagong senior developer namin.
Siya ang bagong team lead ko.
What to do? Kung hindi ko mababasa ang isip niya, how will I do my tasks perfectly and meet his expectations?
I've been using my ability to my advantage since college, people call it as cheating while I call it my own strategy.
Hindi pwedeng hindi matuloy ang next promotion ko!
"Oh Sabrina, come here!" tawag ni Mr. Garcia sa'kin and signalled me to approach them.
I slowly went to them and smiled at them kahit parang matutunaw na ako sa sobrang intensidad ng pagkatitig ng senior web developer namin na may kunot sa noo.
I lifted my chin higher and smiled confidently at the both of them.
"Hello" I greeted them.
"Sabrina, I want you to meet our newest senior web developer Mr. Mason de Castro, he's previously working in ITBeam company as supervisor." pagpapakilala ni Mr. Garcia sa'kin sa bago naming Lead.
