A sudden, loud noise pierced the air, startling both of us. It was my phone, and it was ringing with a music I couldn’t recognize. Aiden must’ve changed it when I wasn’t looking, because the song was with his voice, and he was passionately singing ‘It breaks my heart because you’re the one for me, but don’t feel sad because there never was a story’.

God, I will kill him.

“You can pick up.” Ryan breathed with a husky voice. I nodded absent-mindedly, still thinking about our kiss, and quickly answered the call. I hope it’s really important, because I was in the middle of something good.

I’ve never been in the middle of something good before!

“What is it, Thomas?”

“Ashley Cinder, 26yo.”

My eyes immediately widened. I knew what he was talking about.

“Where?”

“Well, if you don’t hurry up, she’ll be in the morgue. Otherwise, the address is the same. She’s been dead for a few hours, and I thought I should call you when we find her.”

“Goddarn it, why didn’t you tell me it was about that? I was going to come and look for her with you.”

“WELL, I TRIED; YOU WERE ‘BUSY’.

“WELL, I’M SORRY! I’ll be there soon, I promise.”

“You better.” Tom hanged up first and I sighed, putting my phone back in the pocket. I never thought that was why he called me earlier. I mean, I knew it was urgent, but … Not that urgent.

A twenty-six years old, huh? It wasn’t that unusual for someone young to die nowadays, especially after all those drug dealers and unprotected sex, but … To be killed was a different matter. Then again, I had no idea if she was killed. Guess I’ll have to find out.

“H-Hey, so—“

“It’s fine. I’ll give you a ride if you want.” Ryan suggested. I couldn’t decline, of course – I had no means of getting to the scene of the crime fast, at least, not on foot.

“I’ll return the favor someday, I promise.” I mumbled, following him as he led me to his car. It was, to my surprise, a gray Cadillac De Vile 2001. I didn’t fancy such cars, but I must admit that this one was in perfect condition. To me, any car before 2010 was an old car, therefore not worth buying.

Aiden had the same way of thinking, too. He, for instance, drove a yellow Lamborghini Aventador (2014). He told me he’s been saving for a total of six years, because each year he wanted to buy a car, he stopped himself because he didn’t want to make reckless decisions. In the end, Noel took the money and bought him the Aventador, otherwise Aiden’s constant loop of ‘next year’s model will be better’ would result in him saving money for something he would never buy.

I, on the other hand, don’t drive. I have a license, but I don’t want to buy vehicles. My father bought me a white Kia Optima (2012) two years ago, and I’ve been using it ever since, even though I rarely go somewhere with it. As I said, I don’t drive much.

“Is that a Cadillac? Where did you buy it from?” I asked, as I got in the car. Ryan followed and the engine roared with life as he drove to the place.

“My father runs business with cars, and I fix them. I bought it from him.” He answered calmly as he drove. “Where would you like me to drive you?”

“Central Park.”

“Central … Park? You’re not homeless, are you?”

I shook my head and sighed. Of course, I should’ve expected such a reaction.
