Taylinn stared at the boy with ruby eyes an eerie feeling emanating from him. He and the hounds were surrounded by darkness, only their stark white silhouettes and red eyes could be made out.
This is strange, all her life she had been living at a Faerie court, and not once has she met the diversity in Faeries like here at Shadowcall. Well it was a prison for 'undesirables'
The hounds were now sitting around Ulrick, their pacing subsided. They were watching Tay and the others tentatively, some scratched at their ears, others drooled their saliva seeping into the ground, one hound's spit was tainted red...
The boy stared at Tay for a while, Sven had been unusually quiet and observing. He was being careful. It was clear on his face, he did not trust Ulrick as far as he could throw him.
Like thick smoke, tension clung to the air Tay was breathing.
"So are we going to continue?" Ulrick's voice rose as he spoke and the hounds perked up. The skinny boy's attitude suggested that he had no remorse for the chubby man he just killed.
"You want to come with us?" Sven said raising an eyebrow. The question was directed at the druid but Sven turned his head slightly in Tay's direction -a split second of eye contact before he set his eyes on the boy again.
"Well, I got rid of that idiot Mike for you didn't I?" he said as if he did them a favor. He turned towards were the hound dragged the stubby man's corpse, "I wonder what they did with the body?" he said more to himself.
"You can come if you leave the hounds," Sven interrupted Ulrick's train of thoughts.
"Oh sure, they're not mine anyway." with this sentence the hounds turned around and headed into the darkness where they came from. Tay watched as their huge, muscular white silhouettes disappeared.
To Tay's astonishment, she watched as the boy's eyes turned from a bright red to a very mundane looking brown. The boy's features instantly took on a more innocent feel, but Tay knew what he was capable of. She sneaked a peek over at Sven who looked unphased.
"But if you could control them all along, why didn't you escape earlier?" Tay asked in a hushed voice, for some reason the thought of speaking too loud and reattracting the hounds scared her.
"Well, frankly its no fun doing it on your own. And I had no way of getting throught the wall, I can't use earth subs without almost dying. They'renot compatible with me" the boy turned and headed towards the sound of crashing waves. Hesitantly Tay followed after him, with Sven carrying Kael short on her heels.
"My lady," she heard a whisper from behind "my lady, we can not trust this man. Ever since I've been here, he has too, he had served Mike all this time but did not hesitate to take his life. This is a man we cannot trust around a princess."
"I am no princess," Tay stated walking a bit faster to avoid the conversation. She looked back at Kael who looked weak and pale, her heart tugged in her chest at the thought of him never waking up. She wondered how the boy would handle this situation --take Ulrick with them or not. He would most probably threaten him with a pebble, the thought made Tay giggle and it sounded weird mixing in with the sounds of crashing waves.
Tay started to debate to herself, I have Sven an earth bender and Kael a Venator with me, I don't have to be scared of some skinny druid boy.
Tay could barely make out the boy's shadow in front of her, something about him seemed off, he seemed dangerous.
Looking over at Sven he too was watching the boy. "How are we getting out of here? " Tay asked.
"We will ride on Enbarr," Sven said his eyes never leaving Ulrick.
Enbarr, what the hell is that? "What?"
"My horse, I have told you this part before we will ride on my horse, Enbarr."
"Who names their horse Enbarr?"
"Oh, I did not name her. It has always been her name." With this Sven swiftly moved towards the water's edge. The white breaking of the waves against rock was all that broke the dark waters in front of them. The moon's reflection shone back up towards the sky and for a moment Tay thought it was beautiful, peaceful even. Until her eyes could not make anything out past the jagged rocks. Fear started to grip her heart as she thought of all the creatures that lurked below, but all she had to do was trust Sven.
"Where's the boat?" Ulrick uttered. He was squinting over the dark water, scrunching up his nose as if he was smelling something bad.
Sven laid Kael down on the rocks before moving towards the oncoming waves, he walked until the waves went past his waist. Lifting his hands to his mouth he took a deep breath and yelled; "Enbarr!" he only yelled once and his voice resonated into the darkness, it was inhumanly loud.
The sound of crashing waves became more rapid and Tay could hear horse hooves colliding with what sounded like rock.
Water started to lift into the air in front of Sven, drops at first, they looked like tiny stars as the moon reflected off them. Then more and more water collected. They molded together and Tay gawked, a horse formed, completely made of water.
The water moved across the horse's shape, highlighting its muscles, the sheen looked like a tiny ocean of its own and Tay could clearly see through it. Despite it being dark the horse was the clearest of blue crystal water, it whinnied and moved towards Sven.
The moon shone off of the creatures back. It lovingly placed its head in Sven's palm. "Enbarr! My lovely, how have you been." Sven caressed the horse's head and touched his forehead to Enbarr's. Sven's stark white hair and pointed ears made Tay realize at that moment just how handsome he was. His muscular arms caressed the horse's side and Tay watched his muscles dance across his back.
"I have never seen a creature like this," Ulrick uttered, with awe on his face he approached Enbarr his hand outstretched.
Enbarr backed up and watched the druid warily. "If I can only see her eyes I can control her," Ulrick said greedily. Sven bellowed out a laughter startling everyone including Enbarr.
"This is Enbarr, you can't control her boy, she belongs to the ocean." Ulrick looked at Sven disappointment clearly on his face. Sven led Enbarr to the shore, she stopped just before the water turned into rock permanently. "She can't tread on dry land," Sven explained. He walked over to Kael, lifting him in his arms he went over to the horse and laid Kael on her back. Enbarr did not seem to mind as the unconscious boy's arms fell limply to her side.
"Come princess you are next." Sven held his hand out towards Tay, she reached out and just as her hand touched Sven's. They heard it.
Soldiers' footsteps hitting the ground. Swiftly Tay turned around and was greeted by a terrifying sight.
He stepped out of the darkness towards her, his porcelain skin so clear in the night.
Tay's silver eyes met with his silver eyes and his mouth was pulled in a cocky smile.
"The warden"
