He holds his hand out to me. I don't hesitate, quickly taking it. He smiles. "I think it's time, Songbird." I give him a very small smile, not showing my teeth. I think I might be the only one he gives that smile to. He waves a hand at the curtain of skulls. "My army awaits."

I'm six now. For nearly four years, it's been just Toffee and I. He's kept me away from other monsters, because he knows they wouldn't understand. They'd think me easy prey. Somehow, he's managed to keep me hidden from his army- the monster side of the monster/Mewnien war. A war of which I would belong on neither side.

But Toffee believed, now that I'm older and finally know how to speak English like everyone else, he could reveal me to his army. If anyone tried anything with me, anyways, Toffee has taught me how to fight with someone much larger than me- and win. I take a shaky breath. "I... I'm ready." He grins at me for a moment, then settles his face back to one that looks serious and General-worthy. He brushes the skulls aside, stepping out. He'd give me a signal when he was ready for me to exit. I push my black hair behind my ears, very nervous. I could hear him speaking.

"Silence. There is something you are going to see. And if this makes you doubt my leadership skills... you can leave. At your own risk." I can practically hear the smirk in his voice. "Bird. Come here."

I take a breath, but obey, stepping through the curtain of skulls to Toffee's side. There are immediate shouts, but when Toffee raises his hand to them, they all fall silent. Toffee remains serious. "This is Songbird. She was abandoned by the Mewniens as a baby because she is different." At this, I raise my eyes up, gazing at each and every pair of monster eyes I can. This raises some whispers between them. My pitch black eyes- very un-Mewnien-like.

But when one of them mutters something about me, I snarl- flashing my fangs at them. That's when all hell breaks loose. The monsters shout, and one of them rushes at me, arms and claws outstretched. I grab his arm and flip him over my shoulder, putting a foot on his neck. "Don't touch me."

Toffee looks down at me, his eyes showing how proud he is, his mouth twitching in a small smile. He turns to the rest of the army. "This child will remain here, within my care. Perhaps we could use her to our advantage." I knew he was only saying that to win over the army. "Any questions?" There are no responses, and he turns to walk away. He stops next to the bear monster I have in my grip, and points at him. "Someone, take care of this." He walks along, his finger twitching, and I release the beast, hurrying along to follow Toffee.

"Good job." He pats me fondly on the head, then moves towards the back of the tent to look over some... war plans, I assume. He mutters, mostly to himself, but possibly to me, as well. "We are fighting a hard battle. Soon, however, we may be able to get further in this war." I nod, sitting down on my cot.

I knew that things were going to change around here. Now that the rest of the monsters know about me, that is. I sigh and fall backward onto my cot.

Toffee looks over at me from the plans. "You look... tired." He glances back at his papers. "Also, nice job with that flip. I told you using your legs would work."

I yawn, rubbing my eyes. "Yeah, but now I'm paying the price for it."

He looks at me, stonefaced. "Sleep."

I nod, climbing fully onto my cot, and close my eyes, falling into a deep slumber.
