10 years later

Chase pov.

“Come on Jordan!” I yelled as I flew up into a tree.

“I’m coming, I’m coming. I actually have to climb the tree, so excuse me for being slow,” Jordan said.

Jordan has been my best friend since I was taken to the Aether Kingdom’s main stronghold/military city, called The City of Light. The reason I was taken here was to train in my powers which are supposedly the most powerful in the Aether Kingdom. There is a prophecy that states the wielder of light (me) will defeat the darkness (Tartarus Realm), and bring peace to the world.

Jordan was and is the only one who didn’t try to worship me, or try and get on their knees to thank me, or even the one time when someone begged me to save them. She was the only one who got to know me, and tried to be my friend for me, not my power. I feel like she is the only one who really understands me.

Only one other person ever showed me they cared about me for me, and that was my adoptive father, Seth. He is the one who taught me how the world works, and kept the praise from going to my head. He also is the one who trained me, and I think he is a whole lot more powerful than me, contrary what he, and everyone else has to say about it.

Back to why I’m in a tree. I had had enough of people and wanted to get away for the day, so Jordan and I walked out of the city and to the nearby forest. Trees had always been one of my favorite places to be. Maybe it’s just because I love being in the air, well I guess I have to love the air seeing as I have wings. Anyway, as I was waiting for Jordan to get to the top, I started reminiscing about my training.

Flashback

As soon as I woke up, I noticed I was in a bedroom that wasn’t my own. Suddenly, the bedroom door opened and a man walked in. He said his name was Seth and was a Soldier of Light. He then went on to tell me about the prophecy, and how it is “destined for me to save them all”. I didn’t believe him, especially since I knew I didn’t look like the supposed hero. However, I then noticed that something on my back felt weird, so I looked back and saw the beautiful wings that radiated golden light. Then I looked at my arms and saw the swirling tattoos. I asked Seth if I could have a mirror. He complied and gave me one.

What I saw shocked me. My once brown hair was a stark white, and my eyes were a swirling mass of molten white liquid. In all honesty, I looked beautiful. Now, I am not a narcissist, but I did look beautiful.

Then I asked him what happens now, and he said it was time to start training.

Flashback End

From there on I trained all day every day. I am now a master of every weapon known to our kind such as knives, swords, spears, bow and arrows, darts, staffs, and many, many more. Over time I also mastered my powers. I have complete control over light and air. I can even create lightning. Apparently, the reason I can make lightning is because it’s a source of light. I don’t know, because I thought lightning was a power of fire not light, but oh well.

Jordan finally got to the top and we just laid on the thick branches thinking.

“Jordan, when I supposedly save everyone, won’t I still have to kill people to reach that goal?” I suddenly asked her.

*sigh* “Yes, you will still have to kill people to save everyone here.” She replied.

“But then, how does that make me a hero if I kill people?! I’ll be no better than a common murder! How can I be a hero if I kill people, even if they are Darkness creatures? They still have friends and family just like us! So, what makes me any different from a cold blooded murderer?!” I exclaim.

“I don’t know the answer to that. Think of it this way. Yes, you will be killing them, but if you don’t, every one of your friends and family will die if you don’t take their life. Now I’m sorry to put this pressure on you, but if you die, all of us die with you. I wish it was anyone but you that has to go through this, but you have to. For all our sakes, you have to win even if it’s hard.” was her reply.

“Thanks, I really needed to hear that. That little piece of wisdom has given me more courage than anything anyone else could have said or done. So, I thank you my friend.” And then I looked over at her, gave her a small peck on the cheek, and dove off the branch.

She blushed crimson and then yelled at me to get my winged butt back down to her so she could punch me, but I only laughed.

Then I caught sight of a lone figure standing in the shadows, pointing a dart straight at Jordan.

“Watch out!” I screamed at her has I dove towards her, but it was too late. The dart hit her and she fell off the branch into the waiting arms of the figure.

“Get a good look hero!” he sneered. “For this may be the last time you see her in a long time!”

And with that he disappeared. Along with an unconscious Jordan.
