As Chengcheng slowly sipped his tea, all Jiyeon could think was how awkward the atmosphere had gotten.
After a few minutes of tense silence, he finally said something that was unexpected by Jiyeon.
"Yo."
Jiyeon looked up from her staring contest with her empty plate, confused. "What?" she asked.
Chengcheng replied, "Yo..? You know umm.. it's a greeting?"
Almost rolling her eyes at his response, she ignored his lame answer with a sigh. As soon as she was about to speak again, the waiter came by their booth to ask for their order.
"Saved by the waiter." she thought.
After placing their respective orders, they were back to being awkward. Jiyeon couldn't handle it anymore so she spoke up.
The words came tumbling out of Jiyeon's mouth,"I'm sorry."
"What?"
"I said I'm sorry."
"I heard you the first time." Chengcheng sighed. "It's just..you shouldn't be the one apologising."
"Excuse me?" Jiyeon asked, unsure if she had heard his words correctly.
Chengcheng sighed again. It had almost become a mission for Jiyeon to count how many times this boy sighed. "I'm not surprised you did that. You know. Use me."
Jiyeon gulped, the nerves coming back to her. She could only dart her eyes around the room to prevent looking at the boy seated in front of her.
He continued, "Zhengting told me everything. He said he was surprised with the news of you coming to the show. He said something and I quote, 'She would never want to see my face again after what I did.' I didn't ask him much about that because I was too excited to meet you. Too excited. When you finally came to the IQIYI building, I wasn't present there but Zhengting was. He said he followed you so he could to talk to you about something, something he didn't want me to know."
All this time Chengcheng was rambling, Jiyeon was tracing her pointer finger on the tablecloth, listening to him attentively. She hummed as a sign for him to continue.
Chengcheng continued, "But when he reached to where you were, in a room, he saw you talking to someone on the phone. He was going to leave as to not disturb you, but h-he heard you say something that broke my heart when he told me."
Jiyeon knew what he was about to say, so she clenched her teeth and closed her eyes. She nodded slowly, urging him to say it.
Chengcheng looked like he was ready to tear up, but he inhaled slowly to calm himself.
"He heard you saying that you were going to use someone to raise your popularity so your album could be sold and bought more. So more people know about you. So your popularity could be increased. And of course, you had to choose me. Your number one fanboy who had always supported you."
