"He's really serious, isn't he?" Chuuya's voice is heard on the video as the camera focuses on the little weretiger in his white tiger onesie sitting on the floor in the living room, trying to imitate the sound of a tiger's roar from the huge television he was watching on.
"I think he is. It's pretty cute, ne?" then came Dazai's voice much louder from the ginger's earlier which would indicate the younger male was much closer to the camera than the other—well he was since he was filming the adorable scene unfold.
Chuuya couldn't help the giggle that escaped his lips as he continued to watch the video from his phone. He was currently inside a family restaurant waiting for his ex-partner to arrive. And no, they weren't dating nor did they have plans to leisurely have lunch that day. The brunette had called him that morning asking if they could meet up for lunch for business purposes concerning the organ smuggling group that came to Yokohama about a month ago.
Chuuya had arrived 10 minutes earlier than their scheduled meeting because today was Sunday and it was his day-off from work, With that, he decided to entertain himself for a while. As much as Chuuya tried to avoid topics about the incident a month ago—mainly because it brings both good and bad memories he wishes to simply forget and shove onto the back of his head—somehow, he can't find it in himself to do just that. He feels more drawn to it than away from it, and he either believes he's turned masochistic or it's just this weird, feeling of longing left inside him.
The videos he had captured during the incidents clearly didn't help, and even if given the option to delete them, whenever he tries to, he curses himself over for hesitating and cancelling the action. Well, it's not to say they don't actually help, they do sometimes when Chuuya feels the need of comfort and as he opens a video of the small Atsushi, the stress he feels just magically decreases.
I guess what triggered the pain of the incident that time was that Chuuya and Atsushi never had closure since then. Sure, Chuuya had to act as if nothing had happened, Atsushi would never be able to remember any of it and everything would just return to normal, right?
Wrong.
Even if aware that talking to Atsushi about it to gain closure may only confuse the child, Chuuya can't help the selfish feeling of wanting to talk to the mantiger about it. Call it what you may, but no one can tell him otherwise that he didn't care for the lad and loved him like his own offspring. No one can say his selfish decision deserved this equal pain of a mother's loss. Because he didn't choose to keep quiet about Dazai's secret for himself, he did it because he cared for the child.
But then again, maybe his care for the kid was his own selfish excuse. Atsushi needed to return to normal for his own sake and for the greater good. Yet he chose to play dumb to Dazai's tricks and keep his mouth shut. So this is probably good. This is better. His selfishness drove him to that decision and he should only pay the price as much.
The camera zoomed onto Atsushi and Chuuya appears on the screen, tackling the small child while imitating a tiger's roar as well. A loud squeal followed by a few giggles could be heard from the video. The brunette's voice followed as it showed the camera being placed on some low surface—the coffee table if Chuuya could recall—putting Chuuya and Atsushi in clear view before Dazai joined the two by wrapping them into a tight hug, imitating munching noises as laughter echoed through the speakers along with Chuuya telling Dazai to stop and that he was getting tickled.
"Ch-Chuuya-san?" Chuuya's head immediately perked up at the call of his name but not because he had been called, but because he recognized the voice of who called him. He recognized him even through the lack of encounters they had, and the ginger blames his memory of remembering things easily.
