It all started on the very first day of summer. You know, the shining sun, the green grass, and the soothing wind.  My mom, dad, and the rest of my family were all gone before i awoke. My dad, Dan, was at an auto parts store working, my mom, Lucy, was at her job as a cashier at Claire's, and all my brothers were off doing whatever the hell they do in their free time.
When i opened my bright forest green eyes to the early light of the sun, i looked around my black and red bedroom with hope... Wondering if today would actually go my way. I got out of bed  with a groan and walked into the hallway... It was extremely hot in the house because as a prank the guys turned of the air conditioning. Ha ha very funny! Not!! I turned it up so it was maybe like 68 degrees or so. I sat there by the wall and looked down the stairs, around my house.. Its a quaint, small, not-really-a-house sort if house. At least i had a room though, and its all mine.  Its not much, but... Its not much. Anyway, sorry... Side tracked... I may do that a lot in this story, as the house steadily got cooler, i wandered around to see if anyone was actually home. Only D.j... Passed out on he couch. Typical... He had his pants halfway down his ass and his shirt was off, his messy brown hair hanging down over his face. There was a half eaten doughnut on the floor next to him and an empty beer bottle in his hand. Failure.  I went into the kitchen  and got some soda, some sort of mountain dew shit or something. It wasn't the best thing to drink but it's all we got. So yet again, i'm alone... All alone. I walked outside and slowly made my way over to my swing that Mark put up for me. It's the only nice thing he's done for me since i was like... 4! I sat down rather slowly and stared at the tops of the trees where the birds sang there sweet ballads. I wonder if birds are like people, i wonder if they have societies like us, have bullies, have problems. I wonder if somewhere in the world there's a bird that's like me... One that gets picked on and stuff ya know? Sorry again. As i sat there on the swing pondering what it would be like to fly, Andrew pulled in the driveway. He opened the door to the backyard and saw me "hey Hayden!! Check this out bro.." he said, obviously excited about something. He gave me a sheet of paper, "'Congratulations! You have been accepted to go to Fagan University, Andrew Carter. Your essay about ancient Greece was truly inspired. Yada yada yada..... School school school.... Educated.... Intelligent... We are looking forward to see you next year. Good luck' Andrew this is great!!" i gave him a hug and he smiled at me and hugged back. "thanks for all your help, Ashes.." he said then ran inside.
Andrew is the only one who really looked after me, he was more like a dad to me then Dan was. Now he's leaving for college and i'm going to be more lonely than ever. Oh yea by the way he calls me Ashes because that's what mom wanted to name me but my dad 'changed her mind'. I know its corny but that's brotherly love for us. OK anyways Jesus Christ that's he 3rd time I've trailed off on y'all. Sorry. What was I talking about? Oh yeah! So Andrew is going to college and stuff... I'm gonna miss him so much.
