Waking Up

When the sun streams in through the window in the morning, I awake. Groggily, I throw an arm over my face to shield my eyes, and gradually become more aware of my surroundings – of the body curled up next to mine. I take a moment to accept the situation, another night he must have snuck into my bed. I heave a sigh, before glancing his way.

Except, he looks like an angel. His face is serene and – frankly – adorable. And with the way he rests next to me, arm thrown over my chest and tucked neatly into me there.... The sunlight is less obnoxious when it is turning his hair such a rich shade of chestnut, and lighting his skin golden.

And because I know he is still sleeping deeply, I pull him closer and press a kiss to his forehead. When I settle back against the pillows, I draw him nearer to me, further onto me. Holding him tightly, I think that perhaps waking up isn't the worst thing in the world, so long as I have the right person with me. And I certainly had a handsome man to open my eyes to.
