"Nat, what are you talking about?" Alex asked drowsily.
"Look, Gail, the one from school, her sister said I was staying for dinner, and then proceeded to lock the door behind her! So, tell mom I'm staying for dinner at a friend's house." He said. Alex nodded, and hung up the phone leaving Nat to worry about whether or not his brother told his mom or not. They all sat down in a matter of seconds from the time he hung up the phone.
"Nathaniel," Abigail's father, Jefferson started, "What do you do for a job?" He asked.
"Well, I'm a Musician." Nat said, "And a rather good one at that," He chuckled under his breath.
"Are you successful in this music endeavor?" Jefferson asked. Nat nodded.
"Oh, yes, sir and I am also in movies." Nat added. Lizzy stared at him dreamily, while Hope, who was older than Lizzy, snapped in front of her face.
"Got any siblings?" Hope asked absent mindedly, still trying to snap Lizzy out of it.
"Yup, he has a brother named Alex, and they do their music together, and they are both in movies, and they're sooooo dreamy." Lizzy spoke up. Nat stared at her for a second, and nodded slowly.
"It’s true, but she left out the part where we had a TV show when we were nine, and six." Nat chuckled as Lizzy thought through what she said.
"YOU'RE RIGHT!" She said standing up, "I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!" She ran out into the living room, and turned on the TV. The next thing everyone heard was "If That’s Not Love" (The Naked Brothers Theme Song), blaring through the house. Jefferson sighed, and got up. The music stopped, and Lizzy came in frowning.
"But Dad-" Lizzy started.
"No, no," He said, "Sit down, and eat; we have all the seasons on DVD, watch them in your room when you're done eating, and at a respectable volume." Lizzy agreed to his compromise, and proceeded to scarf down her dinner.
"DONE!" She said, and ran upstairs.
"Abby, Hope, you have kitchen duty tonight." Abigail's mother, Loraine, said. Hope groaned, and stomped into the kitchen. Loraine rolled her eyes, and turned towards Nat, "Nat, Just, how successful are you?" She asked.
"Well," He started, "I had a lead role in The Fault in Our Stars." He said.
"What's that?" She asked.
"Oh, it's a book, turned movie." He said.
"Oh," She said, "See, I'm not one for the cinema." She said. Nat nodded, and turned to Abigail.
"I should get going now." He said. Abigail stood up, and made two fingers walk on her hand.
"She said she's gonna walk you home." Loraine said standing up, "In that case I'll take your shift in the kitchen. Abigail nodded, and hugged her mother, "Just be safe." She nodded again, and they walked out the door.
"I'm not one for the cinema." Nat said as they walked down the road, "Yeah, I can kinda tell." Abigail smiled, and stuck a sticky note to his forehead.
My parents live in the 1950’s.
Nat chuckled, “I am so sorry for you.” He said, “Do they let you date?” He asked. She nodded, and stuck another note to him.
They ask periodically if I’m “going steady” with anyone, and it’s so awkward I just might never date anyone.
Nat laughed again, and shoved her a little with his shoulder. She gaped at him, and shoved him too. Nat stopped for a second, and before hoisting her up over his shoulder, and making a run for it. She suddenly stuck another post it note to his head.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Nat continued his run until they came to a rather large house, not quite mansion like, but large all the same. Nat set Abigail down, and opened the door.
I guess this is where we part ways.
“Yeah, I guess so.” Nat said actually quite sadly, “Hey,” He said quickly, “Would you come in? If I asked that is.” He said. She nodded vigorously, and he opened the door. At once the smell of cookies overcame them. The house was much bigger on the inside. There was a large sitting room directly in front of them, and a staircase that lead to the upstairs that had a small indoor balcony into the sitting room.
“Nat, I forgot to tell mom you were gone, so, she’s probably gonna be really mad.” Alex said walking up to him. Nat paused, and glared at Alex, “Sorry.” Alex said walking off into the kitchen. Nat sighed, and walked into the kitchen with Abigail following close behind.
“Nat.” His mother said, seeing him, “Where the hell have you been?” She asked calmly.
“I was at Gail’s house. I told Alex to-“ He was cut off.
“Nat. I wish you hadn’t relied on Alex. You could’ve told him to give the phone to someone else.” She said, “And I had some big news to give out, and being that you weren’t here I couldn’t say what it was.” Nat sighed.
“Ok, fine. I’m sorry.” He said.
“No, Nat,” She said, “I’m sorry.” His dad walked in the room.
“Why are you sorry?” Nat asked.
“Cause, I was in such a good mood, I was gonna give you your car back, but now, I’ve changed my mind.” She said.
“Polly,” Their Dad, Michael, said, “Just tell them, and give Nat his car back. He really didn’t do anything wrong.” He said, “Alex is the forgetful one; if you’re gonna punish anyone it should technically be Alex.” He said.
“HEY! It’s not my fault!” Alex said walking in the kitchen, “Nat called right after my nap, so, I can’t control that.” He opened the oven, and pulled out a cookie. It wasn’t cooked all the way, and it was, apparently, really hot. Alex threw the cookie on the counter, and sighed.
“Well, now they’re all here, why don’t you tell them now?” Michael asked. She sighed.
“Fine.” She said.
