Heights

Dates to me seem so strange. Two people decide to set a time and place just to spend time together.. Why put in the the extra effort? We all meet up doing mundane things every day. Why can't we have "dates" while doing laundry, folding laundry, before falling alseep. Why do I have to dress up?

I like my usual comfortable clothes, not this itchy dress I have on.

These are my thoughts as I climb the final three sets of stairs. For some unknown reason, the elevator stops after the 54th floor.

But my goal is the view and a little exercise doesn't hurt.

So as I stand on the second tallest building of the city and looking out over it, the wind cooling down my warm cheeks, all my worries take a chill pill and don't seem too bad.

Naturally, that feeling of tranquility doesn't last.

I'd finally caught up to the time zone change and this was my first venture away from the house. All in the name of a date.

I already know poor Adam isn't my type right off the bat. For starters, he manages to make facial hair seem unattractive. How is that even possible?

And yeah his eyes have that hooded sexy look going, but his clothes are way too starched and old fashioned enough to give him a confused late 19th century scholar stuck in the 21st century look.

He even talks weird.

Over all, he looks like the kind of guy who's just overly confused. The messy mop of curls on his head aren't enough to distract me, or anyone, for that matter.

Add that to the fact that he uses every opportunity to have his hand on awkward parts of my body.

He grabs my shoulder bone again to point out the affluent part of the city to me, and I roll my eyes at Raina for what seems to be the hundredth time.

I shuffle over to her and pull her away from her boyfriend. "Oh, you owe me big time."

"He's not that bad," she replies good naturedly. "He's actually really sweet."

I'm beyond annoyed by now. "He's a mess. And not a hot one. Where did you even find him?"

She adjusts her pink chiffon scarf artificially around her face, using her phone camera for guidance. "I already told you, he's a friend of a friend. And he's been begging me for years to set him up with someone pretty. Just smile and nod. Enjoy the view Hana, I promise we'll ditch him soon."

I nod uneasily, " Make it sooner then, and as long as you feed me after."

"Glad that's settled. Now smile like you're having a blast, I need a new profile pic."

She takes me to an outdoors themed restaurant that's on the border of a national forest. The seats are made from logs and food is served on polished wood. The light sources are oil lamps delicately arranged on tree branches.

It is breathtaking.

I enjoy dinner thoroughly, glad to be rid of Adam as Raina and her boyfriend chat the night away.
And the pictures looked amazing.

After dinner, Raina sends her boyfriend away. He's worried about us and wants to make sure we make it home safe.

She kisses him on the cheek and winks at him. "Babe, I promised her a night time Matatu ride. Can't miss out on that opportunity."

He sighs and gives up.

I bid him goodbye and turn to Raina as soon as he's out of sight.

"Dinner was amazing," I tell her honestly. "But you are so weird. I can't  believe you only kiss your boyfriends on the cheek."
