You Didn't Even Propose

I had to spend a few more nights in the dark because Kane's electrician friend had to gather some hard-to-find items. He'd also declared that the SQ needed a generator.

The good news was, the bathroom had to be completely remodeled because of some wire installation that involved digging up underneath the structure. I'd get an actual toilet bowl and a whole new shower or tub should I choose to.

I had some ideas that I ran by Kane and he promised he'd try and make my vision come true.

In the mean time, he got me some multicolored fairy light strings that were battery operated to light up the SQ.

I didn't complain.

All of it must have cost a sizeable amount and I began to wonder what exactly my father did for a living.

The country wasn't exactly known for having people who spend money on others a lot. Especially on things like remodeling, if it didn't benefit them directly. Unless they had a lot of money and could afford to waste it on things like that.

But I still wasn't ready for that conversation.

Kane had a cockiness to him whenever he spent even more money on me. Almost as if he wanted me to ask.

I skirted around the subject every time I got the chance to speak about my father.

I was more worried about Raina's next move.

So far she'd only given me deadly looks full of hatred whenever she saw me.

Someone had spotted my little make out session with Lee and we had people gossiping about us for a while.

Apparently, Rahima had started telling people that I had been booked for her son to marry soon without my knowledge.

Kissing Lee had only made her look the fool.

Zia and them had tried to flip the talk around and paint me as a whore, but people adored Lee. They joked around with me whenever I went out with Ofi during her errands.

A lot of them, I found out, had no love for Simigo. Many complimented me, teasing me about wanting invitation to my future wedding with Lee.

It amused me to no end.

The elders even talked about us, saying it was natural and bound to happen because of how inseparable we were as kids, running around and causing trouble.

"Code V," Ofi said urgently.

We were purchasing vegetables from a wooden Kiosk for dinner and she was paying for the items she'd purchased.

The evening was perfectly chilly meaning there wasn't a lot of people out.

I quickly flipped my hoodie over my head and stuck my head as close to the box full of Irish potatoes as I could, hoping to come off as natural.

I pretended to be engrossed in the potatoes as I heard footsteps getting closer and closer to us.

"Ahem."

I froze in place.

"Hana, I can see you."

Darn it!

I straightened and turned to find Lee in grey sweatpants and a black long sleeved shirt. He had headphones dangling off one ear.

"Hey Lee," I greeted, awkwardly waving one arm.

"My eyes are up here."

I looked away from his dark blue Crocks to find him smirking at me.

"What's up..."
