Have you ever heard of the "Great War of Magic", people say it was one of the greatest movements in human history? Apparently, gods of many varying elements guided the nations of our world into peace and prosperity. Fire, Water, Earth, Ice, Wind, Electricity, Light and lastly Darkness. The main problem with the goddess of darkness is that she hated humanity, she had full belief that gods and humans should've never interacted.
Thanks to the gods, numerous people were learning magic powers and abilities. So the goddess began what was known as the "Great War of Magic", her magic potential had become so strong that even the other gods weren't able to defeat her. When humanity believed it had come to an end, an immense presence in the form of an adult male came from the sky and erased the dark goddess from existence. Thus ending the war. "Yeah, right. Like that ever happened." I'd said to myself, overhearing a discussion spurned by my classmates.
Welcome to Whitecrest, you probably have zero clue where that is on the world map. Well, try a tiny town in the dead-center of Valerest. I was transferred here with my mother and my stepfather back when I was only four years of age, not like we improved the population all too much (population is 5249). Getting that out of the way, my name is Atticus. Atticus Frost, a freshman at Arcadia University. Life here isn't particularly the most interesting or fun for that matter, nor is there any adventures to be had.
That was at least...what I'd thought. Rewind back to last week, a major event occurred on the very first day of Winter. I had just gotten out of my history class, which means I was free to go home, but I wanted to use my next hour reading at the library before I took the monorail back. The library here was much like my sanctuary, I didn't really have any friends to hang-out with at the time. Reason being is that socializing has never been a strong suit of mine. I got myself started by going to reach out for my favorite text, "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe. When my hand had grasped it, the hand of another had just touched mine.
'I guess you got to it first...', I turned to my left to see a young lady almost my height. She had long eminent purple hair and gorgeous golden eyes you could take notice of from a mile away, accompanying that was a knee-length black shirt and skirt combination. Her hands were wrapped around a roughed up teddy bear, being a girl in university this came as quite a shock to me. I don't remember seeing her at the opening ceremony or anywhere around campus for that matter. 'I've already read this one multiple times, here.'
It was of course hard to get that sentence out, unexpectedly she grabbed it. 'Thank you.' Her voice matched that of a shy angel, 'You're welcome, what's your name?'. The girl gasped quietly and looked at me in the eyes, 'Lucienne, Lucienne Rayleigh'. We locked eyes for at least a minute until she looked down at her phone. 'I have to go, I'm a bit busy.' Before she could leave, I said one last thing, 'Atticus Frost, I hope we can talk again sometime.'
She looked back behind her one last time, 'Who knows, I sure hope you're right.'. Lucienne seemed to be quite troubled about something, I didn't want to push too much just in case. Considering the fact that I needed to look for another book now, I skimmed over a long list of texts that piqued my interest over the years. Number one was "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, I've been meaning to read this story of prejudice for a while now, just never had the time. I had a thorough look around the wide library and finally found it, borrowing it and reading the first few pages on the way out. Since it was the end of the day, I stood outside and almost began my venture home. However, the sight of my step-father, Mikhail entering the university campus gates distracted me.
The best course of action was to follow him and see where he was going, or maybe I was thinking too heavily about this. He might even just be here because he got a job offer or to pick me up from school or something like that. 'Mikhail, what're you doing here?' I made my decision to call him out and rely heavily on my choice. He stopped in his tracks and turned his back to me, adjusting his unusual polka-dot tie; 'Oh, Atticus. What're you still doing at school when your classes are over?' something about him was really shaky like he was trying to avoid me or get somewhere in a rush. 'I was just about to leave, you seem...shaken up a bit?', he quickly looked at his watch before ending the conversation; 'Uhm, Atticus could we continue this discussion when I get home, I've got somewhere I really need to be right now?'. Mikhail was obviously in a rush, but what could he be doing here after school hours; 'oh yeah, sure. I'll see you at home then.', he flashed me a signature "stepdad" smile and booked it inside.
