It was nearly 6:00 and Jordan had just awakened.
He yawned, weary eyed, and put on his slippers for breakfast. He walked down the creaky stairs and followed the aroma of blueberry pancakes. As he sat down in his favorite chair, his mother served him breakfast. "Sleep well?" she asked. "Not too bad," he replied with a mouthful of syrupy pancakes. "Finish up," his mother said. "Harley is waiting for you." Harley was Jordan's companion, his best friend, his partner in everything. He took one last bite, changed into his favorite blue shirt and headed out the door. Harley stood there, her bike at hand, with a huge grin. She had beautiful hazel eyes, tan skin, and wavy brown hair. "Jordan," she said. "What's it gonna be today?" "Let's just ride...and see where the road takes us." Harley walked closer to Jordan. "I remember your dad used to say that," she said. Jordan stopped. He thought about his father's words. Jordan's father was a wise, yet adventurous man. He was always stating quotes that would teach his son, and always took him to explore. Jordan loved his father, and his father loved him. Jordan smiled at the thought of his father. Then his smile turned to sadness. "I remember the day he disappeared," he said. "It was like a nightmare." Harley rested her hand on Jordan's shoulder. "Hey, it'll be okay," she said. They'll find him. We'll find him." Jordan smiled again. "Thanks. Now how about that ride?" he said. Harley giggled. The two friends climbed on their bikes, and started on the trail.
