A Supposition

Dr. Roy feels the presence behind him. The beats can be heard, the heart is leaping with dread. His head denies turning around, the darkness swallows his figure.

"Why on earth are you shivering when all I can do is sweat like a pig?" A familiar voice stings at his ears. The light comes back to life, enlightening his realization.

He turns around consciously, "Hi, Ms. D, long time no see." The rhyme is perfect and his smile is visibly forced. Ms. D arches her eyebrow at his lame greeting. He fears she will know his faltering bravery.

She sits down on a chair, next to him, and states, "That's because you are reading this diary all day. We couldn't get a chance to talk since this morning."

He fidgets, "Oh, I'm sorry." But somehow he can smile naturally.

Ms. D waves and looks at the diary instead, "What did you get from it? What are you suppositions and theories?"

Dr. Roy has become uncomfortable again at the sudden inquiries. His pulse quickens, and the sense of unity with Bhavna touches him once again. He looks at his watch and says, "I'm not done with the diary. Are we all business at this unearthly hour?"

Sighing heavily, Ms. D presses her thighs with her palms, "No, not at all. I was just.... curious. This murder case is really interesting for me." His eyes hold hers questioningly. "Because, as you know, I am not...-"

"Appreciated anymore? And you want to prove yourself again?" He ends.

She heaves her leisure from the chair and stands up, shock plastered over her face. "Well, I am appreciated still now, Dr. Sidhdhart Roy. I'm not your patient, so stop analyzing me. Please!"

Dr. Roy gets her disapproval; he immediately responses back, "Yes, ma'am." His gaze travels down to her tapping foot, "and I think, this girl, Bhavna is not mentally well. To put her case in our psychological term, she has, I guess, Dissociative Identity Disorder or DID. This was called Multiple Personality Disorder earlier, but the term has gained its tricky name because the mental dissociation is very complicated. This my supposition. But, I cannot say it for sure now. I need time and isolation. I have to stitch her memory gaps and irregular pieces of information to come up with my theories. She is amazing, you know? She is all dark and light: she is gray. I have to paint myself with gray to get to know her."

Ms. D is beyond shock, she is hyperventilating with uncertainty and insecurity, "What if you cannot know her? Like you cannot analyze a dead psycho. Now can you? What if you are wrong? This isn't a case of rainbow personalities. This is fucking murder; don't know if it's psychotic or not. But can a person kill when she is not even herself? And here you think she is amazing. Well, I'm amazed."

A glass full of water is all she needs right now. "Hey, here, drink this. Be cool! I need you to be calm," He pauses and looks for assurance, "Do you really think she has killed them and fled? God, no! We can't say unless we know it for sure. She can be a victim. I don't if she is still alive or not. Yes, she can kill or do anything she wants when she is not herself. But, let's just drop this idea for now.

Look, I can assay a dead person's psychology. I was trained for that. I'm doing this for almost ten years now, don't you remember? And, Trust me! I know it's difficult to investigate something new, completely untouched. I myself have never come across cases or people with DID. But, we cannot tell surely that that's the case with her unless I read the whole thing and think thoroughly."

"Yes, sorry. I was just worried that we might not solve the case. Ugh! How can I be so stupid? We've got a name, Bhavna, right?"

"Yes, and she tells she has a twin, Bhaivabi..."

"But?" Ms. D contorts her face into a serious expression.

"But, I think, she might not have a sister at all. I mean, she thinks she has one but she doesn't because it can be her alter. Oh, an alter personality is another personality in the same mind. And plus, we didn't get a place or a name of her family. So..."

"And what is this supposed to mean?"

"Look, Drishti, you're not here on business. Right? Your job is over for the day. Go home, give me my alone time back. I can assure you I will come up with something logical and relatable. Good night!"

Ms. D is displeased with the facts that she has to keep her anxiety low and that she was called with her full name. But, anyway, she has locked the door before leaving the deserted apartment with murderous air. Dr. Roy has decided to stay in the apartment with the diary and a bottle of water. He has to prove to Ms. D that they can do it. She can solve the case and she will be needed and honored again, like good old times.

"She has blood on her hands in the woods? Did you kill someone or something, girl?" Dr. Roy mutters to himself before opening the diary again to read the unfinished page.

The light flickers again.

A/N:

Well, so if you don't know what DID basically is, here's what it is:

Dissociative identity disorder (DID), also known as multiple personality disorder, (DID), also known as multiple personality disorder, is a characterized by at least two distinct and relatively enduring. There is often, beyond what would be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. (Wikipedia )

This is also called Split Personality. If you're curious, like me, you should watch movies like Split, Sybil and many more. You should read biographies like Sybil and The Flock. These are awesome pieces of arts.

And, if this definition isn't enough to quench your sprouting questions, you will be answered throughout this story. Don't worry!
