Chapter One

Grace's POV

I unlock the door to the house I share with my sister, Casey. My dog, Buster, runs inside and starts barking like crazy. Without looking up, I walk to the kitchen. Buster keeps barking.

"Hush, boy. Wait until she sees me." A very familiar voice says.

I look up and see my best friend, Matthew, sitting on my couch. I cover my mouth with my hands and jump up and down.

He reaches out his arms, and I run to him.

He spins me around and kisses my forehead.

"I missed you, Gracie." He says.

I hug him one more time.

"I missed you too! When did you get here?" I ask him.

"Yesterday. I slept at a hotel in Miami last night and drove to Fort Lauderdale about an hour ago."

"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" I ask him.

"I wanted it to be surprise. I have a surprise in Miami."

I smile.

"What is it?"

"If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise. You dyed your hair." He says.

"Surprise! Do you like it?"

He smiles.

"I love it. So, do you wanna spend a few days in Miami with me?" He asks.

"Is that even a question? I'll go pack."

I walk upstairs to my room and grab my suitcase out of the closet.

Matt flops down on my bed.

"A whole two months. I'm never doing that again." He sighs.

"Why not? I thought you loved traveling." I grab two swimsuits and put them in my bag.

"I do. I just missed being able to fly out and see you whenever."

I turn to him and smile.

"Yeah, I missed that too."

I grab three pairs of shorts and put them in the bag.

"I think you're gonna like my surprise."

"Stop teasing me! I'm nervous." I say.

He jumps up and grabs a few shirts from my closet.

"These are my favorites." He puts them in the bag.

"How do you know I like them?" I ask.

"If I like them, you like them." He says simply.

I laugh.

"Oh, is that how it works?"

"Duh."

I finish packing and walk downstairs with Matt.

Casey calls me.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Did you get home yet?" She asks.

"Yep."

"Did you like the surprise?"

"All these surprises are driving me insane! I'll see you in a few days." I say.

"Bye. Have fun."

I hang up and scratch Buster.

"I'll be back soon." I tell him.
